I just got a
Westinghouse L2610NW. It's a TN panel, but for gaming it's perfect. Colors are very crisp. I find the rated 350nit brightness perfect... it's not too bright, but has just a little more light than most of the monitors I was used to using (300nit typically).
My only complaints are that it only has an HDMI and VGA imput. No DVI, but assuming you have a modern video card than you'll have HDMI capability anyway. The monitor does have 'ok' speakers if you want to use them, they'll work, so that gives the HDMI a little more value for some I would think. But for me, I quickly went back to my Z5500's.
Also, while I think the colors are very, very decent, it does suffer from your typical TN viewing angles handicap. Side to side isn't so bad, but up/down is terrible. But, the stand does allow for adjusting the angle of the panel, so you can sit in your chair and adjust it to make it look good from your angle.
My other complaint is the power button. They made it a small button on the side of the monitor. Sometimes I have to do a small bit of searching to get it turned on. I think they made that decision because the monitor looks like they tried to make it a bit on the stylish side with the bezel and the frame that surronds it. <shrug> Not a big deal, but it is a minor annoyance.
Best Buy was selling this monitor for $450, but had it on clearence for $290. I couldn't pass it up for that... I got an unexpected bonus at work so had a few bucks to play with and bought this monitor on a whim when I was walking through the store. After I argued my way out of their extended warranty and got it home I was quite happy with it compared to my old Acre 22" monitor which was a decent monitor in it's own right (nothing special by any means, but it got the job done).
This monitor is rated at 2ms response time, and has a rated 3000:1 contrast ratio. Blacks look good to me.
All in all I'm happy with the monitor, but it is a TN panel. I work with Dell Ultra Sharp monitors at work and can say I'm still happy coming home and using this monitor.
Anyway, I just figued I'd post this since you can probably find this one pretty cheap for a decent quality picture (about as good as you'll get with TN). I really like the 1920x1200 resolution for looking at pictures I take. Anyway, good luck with what ever you get, I just figured I'd throw you another option since you said you'd be using it to game, this is a great gaming monitor. I think since I've gotten this monitor I've annoyed my wife by being on the computer trying to level up my character a bit too much. Oh well. Anyway, good luck with whatever you go with.
