I found on Sears' website the Sylvania 27 inch flatscreen TV for $350 (marked down from $450). It seems pretty good, but I want it to be even less, doesn't Sears PM websites, anywhere out there that has it better? Also does Sears have anything like 10% off when applying for a credit card? If anyone can help I'd appreciate. Deal is good until 7/22 and here's the link. Link Dunno if that'll work, otherwise it's just under TVs 25-31 inch, you'll see it.

Anyone know any specifics on this Akai? I searched but found nothing :frown:

OK here's a link Link Anyone got it, or know if it's good. Also does Sam's have any temporary passes coming up? I've seen there special 1-day passes etc. I don't wanna buy a pass just for one item. Thanks.

go to the hometheater forum.. many discussions about the akai/samsung unit there. I have one. it's not that great. Don't expect Sony's quality for the price you pay for it

I have the akai 27" flatscreen tv which was bought from sams. I have one major complaint about it. If your watching a movie (ex. Cast Away) and it gets to a part which is at night, the tv don't show the black right. I mean theres weird shades of gray shadows around which it should be just black. I thought my contrast/brightness was out of wack but no matter how I adjust it, any big black areas of a movie are all mucked up. Really looks like crap if you ask me. If I can get this fixed then it would be the best tv I ever had. Everything else about it is fine.

Try the woodland hills Fry's, it was still marked down to $349 as of a week ago. They've had it marked down for well over a month now since the new 2792F is due out.

Damn... very nice. I hope these prices keep on falling.

I started with a 20" and I'm getting ready to move up to a 24 or 27" Anyone try the Akai 24" from Sams?

Spend an extra $100 and get a better TV.... Sony Wega, Panasonic Tau, Toshiba Flat.

I bought the Samsung 27" and I was very disappointed with it's performance. I ran my Video test DVD on it and found it had poor screen geometry, the screen was tilted and cut off the lower corner. The color was so-so, I noticed the colors to over saturated, more so with the reds. Adjusting the settings helped a little bit, but the problem was still noticeable. As for the picture quality... it was OK, Components helped out the color, but I stilled noticed a cleaner picture with the other brand TVs. And for the record I tested RCA Composite, S-Video, and Component... the problems occurred regardless of the cable connection.

I took the TV back to the store and just to make sure it wasn't a fluke I had the sales guy hookup a DVD player to their display model so I can run the test DVD. I returned it, paid a little more and picked up a Panasonic Tau. I was originally going to go with the Wega to match my existing 40" XBR Wega, but the salesmen hooked me up with a nice deal on the Tau.

You pay for what you get....

Hmm Bigempty, most people seem to recieve the Samsung/Akai pretty well. Maybe you got a bad unit? Or maybe you're just more picky than most?Personally, I doubt I'll ever know the difference, and I'm trying to limit myself to $350, my original budget was 250-300 but there's always something better JUST over the rainbow to the next price range. Anyone who wants a 24-inch flatscreen, Costco will have a Phillips model on sale (with their passport) for $300, not bad but I dunno the pic quality.

i hear ya SCtrojan... i mean I went from a 19" Sony that was so old it only had coax...and wife decided i needed a new TV for fathers day...god she's good (plus she likes porn! how rare is she?) anyway...by far the best TV i've owned and i'm very pleased. We got it at our local sams for 349.91 and I got the extended warranty (original is only 90 days for labor) for an extra 10 or 15. But the kicker was we got a friend to purchase it for us so that was way kewl...very pleased

I bought the AKAI and I am really tickled with it ! It beats the Sony hands down ... Oh BTW ... the AKAI is being used in the bedroom .. the den has a 56" Toshiba HDTV ... I am kind of anal (I admit) ... when it comes to video quality ... I have to say that after setting the video using Video Essentials ... this TV has a picture to die for. Never watch anamorphic widescreen the old way again ... squeeze it using the widescreen squeeze setting on this TV ... awesome !!! True it comes nowhere close to my HDTV ... but I paid 10% of the price for this one

Oh .. if you left the contrast and brightness in the factory default setting ... you are going to get a BAD BAD picture. On my set the contrast is 33 ... brightness is 44. And I started with the MILD setting ... it disables SVM.

The picture is awesome ... oops I said that already.
