that may be a good thing if you're a gamer and are looking for a monitor with low input lag I guess. The part about the stand is a drawback though...

Is there any lag on DisplayPort? A quick search doesn't show anything conclusive.

I'm little annoyed because I'm trying to find a cheap, 27" to 30" high-res monitor for my work PC with DP, and I'm not seeing too many options. I'd rather not deal with big, clunky adapters if I can avoid it. In my case, input lag isn't an issue, but it drives me crazy that so many are doing DVI-only still. Can it REALLY cost that much to add in DP?

Anything beyond a DVI port and it requires a digitizer which will introduce some sort of lag guaranteed from what I have read.

I would be all over this if it had a better stand but sadly it doesn't. And oddly enough, a nice stand is quite expensive on ebay. Maybe I should just bite the bullet and buy an articulating arm.

Honestly, the only reason this is true is because most lcd chipsets are native dvi and convert everything to dvi. There's nothing stopping the manufacturers from making something that is native displayport and converting dvi to displayport inside.

the problem is dvi is timing based data transmission, and displayport is packet based data transmission.

they are entirely incompatible. if you want to make a display that has both, you need to add both chipsets. its like going from vga to dvi, but even more different. theyre just not even close to compatible with eachother.

Why don't you just get a DP-to-DVI cable? We recently got these at our office for our new computers that only had DP out and found it to be much better than adapters. The price is pretty low as well.

The $30 single link adapter works at 1920x1200 for me, so I didn't need to splurge for the $90 dual-link adapter.

But I double the $30 single-link adapter would work at 1440p or 1600p, where you'd need the more expensive dual-link version.

Fry's, today, have a 27" LG IPS for $268 with DVI, HDMI & VGA. It is 1080 resolution.

You can return within 30 days if you are not satisfied also.

This is at the Texas stores. Don't know if the sale is the same at all locations.

Most people are talking about 2560x1440 monitors, 1920x1080 screens just don't compare to those, but thanks for sharing.

This looks like something I would love to have.
Is it true that having the higher res means you have to use less AA to achieve the same results in gaming?

More pixels should mean less AA is necessary to achieve a high quality image with no/less jaggies. If you are going to game at 2560x1440 you are going to need a beast of a gfx card, in just about any modern game.
