nVidia should just as well discontinue their free Game Package because the Green team is the only Video Card MFGr with cards to sell ;o)
More than that available, those are the two lowest-priced ones. Inventory fluctuates though so what is true one moment might not be the next but at the time I checked there were a few other models available. In any case, Newegg is not the only channel. There is stock if you are creative. I landed a new with warranty 7990 from an authorized dealer last week with not much markup and that's one of the rarest, hardest to find cards out there, for instance.
But I get the sense you just want to argue for the sake of arguing at this point. Does it matter whether this shortage is better or worse than HD58xx or 8800GTX? Not really. In all three cases there was an obvious supply-demand imbalance and prices rose as a result. I stand by my statement that we did see this kind of situation before, in 2009 and in ~2007 or so (foggy memory, it was around the time of the 8800GT or 8800GTX).
At the time there were 2/32 available. It had nothing to do with price. Now there are 8/32 (they obviously got a shipment in). That's still not plenty of availability. You have to be the only person who hasn't noticed a shortage. Of course circumstances matter when you are comparing different situations. That's what adds context to it.
As far as you "sensing that I just want to argue", don't post inaccurate statements if you don't want anyone to point them out. It is a forum for discussion.
It's hilarious to see every single high end AMD card OoS on the egg. And I mean in hilarious as I can't recall it happening with either company ever.
Actually there are plenty of high end cards available on Newegg right now, just not at launch prices, so it's not true that Newegg is out of stock.. they and/or AIBs are just scalping. For instance you can buy a R9 290 for $499.99 right now. Not a great price, but it's in stock. You can also buy a R9 280X for $399.99 right now. Etc. They are in stock, just not at good prices.
This is very similar to the HD58xx situation in Nov-Dec 2009 where Newegg prices were getting kind of out of control, like $310+ for a HD5850. And back then the supplies of HD48xx were drying up as well similar to how HD79xx is hard to find now.
I also recall there being a massive shortage of 8800GT/X video cards back in the day when NV's card was so much better that everybody piled onto that GPU making it hard to keep in stock.
If it's against the law, then how to golf manufacturer's do it? I guess it boils down to implementation because golf manufacturers do not let pro shops charge their own prices. Pro shops will have products removed from their shops if they try to undersell other pro shops. It boils down to protecting the brand for manufacturers and also makes pro shops offer good service in order for people to buy from them. Maybe they operate outside of the norm due to some loop hole.
I guess what you are saying is they 'fix' the price and charge too much...sort of like what happened with memory back in the day. That is not what I am saying...and that is also why I stated it probably will never happen in the technology industry because of too many conflicts of interest.
It's unfortunate they can't, but I also understand why they don't. The free market is always best, but it is not always perfect.
Enough is enough, I didn't say there wasn't a shortage, read my posts, I said that at the time I was posting that not all high end cards were sold out, in contrast to what another poster said. He said they were TOTALLY sold out. I said actually not really. So why are you not taking issue with HIS inaccurate statement? Why are you criticizing me for correcting HIS inaccurate statement?
I also said actually there have been similar shortages in the past like how in 2009, AMD had their high-end cards wiped out except what little remained of 48xxs, very similar to now.
Aside from your arguing for no reason (repeat: I was correcting someone else saying that there were ZERO cards available), does it even matter if this time is THIS crazy or THAT crazy? You're splitting hairs as if you're a lawyer arguing a case. Please find something more productive to do. Crazy is crazy. Stop trying to pick fights over hypertechnicalities. Don't bother responding to this post, I refuse to get into a hair-splitting contest over minutiae with you, sorry.
Actually there are plenty of high end cards available on Newegg right now...
1x290 and 1x280X = plenty of stock? Two out of thirty two models?
This one looks nice..available in Australia right now.
I wouldn't buy that! They forgot to clock up that core and memory not to mention they propably forgot to install GPU on the card at all. But most worrying is the dimensions of that thing, worlds first black hole powered GPU?
From an engineering point of view, fitting a GPU with 0 stream processors in a 0 sq. mm space and having it run at 0MHz is easy, all at a very low power envelope. The real question here is how do you sell such a GPU?My knowledge on marketing is too limited to even speculate though...

Difficulty isnt gonna rise too fast from now since its limited by the number of higher end Radeons available.. and they are all out or near out of stock everywhere.
I have NEVER seen this kind of shenanigans before: http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php...3_1559&zenid=757904c4cc200560956e311ed3803511
The biggest pc etailer here is out of stock.. no more 7950, 7970s, and now 280X all out as well as R290/X in very low availability. And I know from these guys, they received a LOT of cards but demand is nuts.

I just want one to game on - they're sold out everywhere I want to shop! I could buy online but I want the local warranty, etc. Greedy jerks hoarding them hoping to mine "free money".
Isn't the local warranty only good for the "return policy" period of time, after that manufacturer's warranty takes place doesn't it? Unless you like getting ripped off with a local extended warranty.
Interesting times... I just sold my 7950 for $350. These cards were going for $180-200 AMIR back in September. I've been buying (and selling) video cards for quite a while now, and I've never seen anything like this. To have demand and price rise so much after dropping so low, so late after launch is unprecedented.
The closest thing I've ever seen to this was people paying top dollar for reference cards months after launch so they could fit waterblocks, but nothing close to this.
Selling the card does sort of leave me in a lurch though... I definitely got good money for it, but with all the AMD cards sold out there aren't really any inexpensive replacements. I guess I could break even and get a minor upgrade with a GTX 770, but I've already had three GK104 cards.
Not that I have any ill will towards the miners, but I hope the bottom drops out on LTC mining and the market gets flooded with cheap R9 290s! I'll definitely take one of those for $350!
