Driver support, you are right, but ATI's/AMD's cards easily aged better.
9700/9800 series > GeForce 5
x800/850 series > GeForce 6
X1900/1950 series > GeForce 7
AMD/ATI always had more forward looking chips. I mean they supported Tessellation since 2001, this is nothing new.
the only NV card that made sense in the last gen was the 980Ti and only because of overclocking.
750 ti made sense when released, 970 made a lot of sense when released and so on... 980 and 960 were perhaps more difficult to justify, but still had some clear positives that made them sell well.
Couldnt find this on guru3D site, if they using a stock 780TI vs a 3rd party ALWAYS OC'ed 290X this test is a joke.

How do you know its not a stock 290x and OC'd 780 Ti?
Because im still using my brain at 100%, have a look at this numbers where they have a custom 290X at STOCK speed that dont throttle vs a stock 780TI, benchmark with transprancy what card and at what speed it's running.

Page 1 and last page all u need to know, if u want the fine details dive into the game benches and compare em to guru3d.

Wow article from August 24, 2015, only 9 months old... very valid data there.
The one linked is from this week.
That's over 2 years old an eternity in graphics.
TPU's GTX1080 benchmarks had a dirty little secret.
1440P
280X = 780 :sneaky:
290 (throttling 290) > 780Ti
390 > 970
390X (non-throttling 290X) > 980
Fury X = 980Ti
Amd/ati was usually first to dump their old cards.
But now they're still selling gcn 1.0, so that's not happened yet.
Nice! Where did you get it at? That is a pretty decent deal for someone who can't wait past 28nm. Last I looked all the 390s were like $340 +
Read what i replied to Bacon1, the data is alot better then what guru3d is presting here since it's not transparant of what cards are used and what mhz they running at. U choose urself what u would like to belive, i myself prefer to have all the data needed first that's why i cant take this guru3D post seriouse at all. It's not good enough simply.
