the only NV card that made sense in the last gen was the 980Ti and only because of overclocking.

Driver support, you are right, but ATI's/AMD's cards easily aged better.

9700/9800 series > GeForce 5
x800/850 series > GeForce 6
X1900/1950 series > GeForce 7

I can easily agree with 9000s vs 4 and FX
x19k vs 7 series,

but x800 vs 6 series? I think the 6 series aged better, you could enabled effects that the x800 couldn't in games from 2004/2005, and in 2006-2007 you could still run some games on a 6 series at playable framerates that the x800 simply failed to even start...
I remember some people building a mod to convert "Bioshock" to sm2.0 so their x800 could run it...

AMD/ATI always had more forward looking chips. I mean they supported Tessellation since 2001, this is nothing new.

and the moment Tessellation became really relevant (part of a DirectX11) Nvidia was quickly outperforming them at it, even using it against AMD in things like the Crysis 2 patch...

the only NV card that made sense in the last gen was the 980Ti and only because of overclocking.

750 ti made sense when released, 970 made a lot of sense when released and so on... 980 and 960 were perhaps more difficult to justify, but still had some clear positives that made them sell well.

I only thought about Maxwell 2.0 cards but I guess at some point you are right about the 970 it made sense but after price cuts to the Hawaii cards it quickly became too expensive.
Also there are some PCI-E power-only 960 cards that also make sense to some people that have OEM PCs without any additional power connectors.

After the price cuts the 290 and 290x really were good deals. I only game at 1080p so my 290x will probably do me for this year and maybe even next year.

Couldnt find this on guru3D site, if they using a stock 780TI vs a 3rd party ALWAYS OC'ed 290X this test is a joke.

Because im still using my brain at 100%, have a look at this numbers where they have a custom 290X at STOCK speed that dont throttle vs a stock 780TI, benchmark with transprancy what card and at what speed it's running.

Page 1 and last page all u need to know, if u want the fine details dive into the game benches and compare em to guru3d.

Wow article from August 24, 2015, only 9 months old... very valid data there.

The one linked is from this week.

I thought this was a forum where brains > fanboy feelings was the norm, it seems someone in this thread cant live up to the standards, for more information how a OC'ed 290X looks vs a referance 780TI and a OC'ed 780TI

You are also welcome for the free education, u are free to take it or leave it to. Does not affect my life the slighest since i already understand how it works.

Without knowing if they using a stock or not 290 series and if the 780TI is original test values with stock card it's pointless, this is why i never waste my time with sites that just throws out 30-40 cards and calls it a day without real details, it only make u as a consumer dumber and less informed.

That's over 2 years old an eternity in graphics.

Read what i replied to Bacon1, the data is alot better then what guru3d is presting here since it's not transparant of what cards are used and what mhz they running at. U choose urself what u would like to belive, i myself prefer to have all the data needed first that's why i cant take this guru3D post seriouse at all. It's not good enough simply.

I got a Sapphire Nitro R9 390 for $300 with a Hitman game code. I'm downloading it right now. Really good bang for the buck!

Nice! Where did you get it at? That is a pretty decent deal for someone who can't wait past 28nm. Last I looked all the 390s were like $340 +

Amd/ati was usually first to dump their old cards.

But now they're still selling gcn 1.0, so that's not happened yet.

My quadfire 5970s lasted 1.5 years into the 7 series and all the games that i was playing had CF support that need CF that's nearly 4 years and 2 generations of superseding cards releases.

Funny that you think 2 year old benchmarks are more valid than 1 day old ones.

There are many reviews out there that don't list every single card they run, do you not trust any of them and instead use year old data when deciding which card was a better buy?

We are trying to discuss how the cards have aged, you can't do that with 1-2 year old data.

Prices have fallen quite a bit. XFX R9 390 XXX OC = $280. All 390/390X cards come with Total War Warhammer making it an even better value. I expect even bigger price drops next month as AMD prepares to clear out Hawaii inventory for good.

:thumbsup::thumbsup:

"Judgement Day" has come for Kepler. Not only is its architecture/driver optimizations failing, but now the 2-3GB VRAM bottlenecks are showing up. 2GB cards already fell apart in 2015 and 3GB are next in 2016.

Compare 7970/7970Ghz/R9 280X against 670/680/770.
Compare 780/780Ti against 290/290X.

380X 3GB beats 780Ti 3GB, while R9 290X is 73% faster, just 3 fps behind 60 fps avg!

Kepler is going to go down as one of the worst aged NV architectures, right behind FX5000 and GeForce 7 series. What makes it worse this time is 770-780Ti line cost more than AMD's 'equivalent' cards for the majority of that generation.

I just grabbed a XFX 390X at Newegg for $369 - $30 MIR + Hitman code a couple of weeks ago to replace my problematic 290 that I'm going to RMA. I figure that for the price it'll last me for a while at 1080 while I see how this generation plays out.

I got it in February at Newegg, that was the price at the time. Like the card a lot so far.

I recently sold my GTX 780 and installed my 7970 GE. I didn't run any benchmarks, but the performance difference in Fallout 4 is drastic. Since FO4 is the only game I'm playing nowadays, I can honestly say I miss my GTX 780 I'm still glad that I got rid of it while it was still worth something. I have $$$ burning in my pocket for the next upgrade.
