I came across this promo from NorthWest Airlines at FW. I booked a flight myself. Make sure that your departure date is before 30th June and return date before 31st July.(max 30 day stay) Also make sure that you choose both the dates between Fri and Sun. Its actually an very interesting place to visit. I lived about 20 minutes outside of amsterdam for 5 months last fall. From the Van Gough museum, to Anne Frank's House, to the AJAX football games, Amsterdam is actually quite an amazing city.

I was there for 3 days on a europe tour and let me tell you. It was GREAT !
The redlight district keeps people entertained while the smoke shops do the same.
If I could afford it i'd be right back down there.
PS- Heineken is their local beer so it is CHEAP CHEAP CHEAP and the Brewery tour is great. You can hardly stand up by the end

yeap, this is definately one of the most interesting cities a person will ever go to --- take a walk through the Red Light district after 7pm ; )
the Heineken Brewery museum was cool! ticket admission is somewhere around 7-10 euros, and they give you 3 free drinks (inside at the museum bars only), and they give you a collector's gift glass & tin when you leave. it's so worthwhile!

its interesting and all but no one mentions the thefts there. i know so many who lost their valuables there since someone stole it. and at night one of my friends almost got mugged by two guys. don't walk around alone at night the smokes are cheap but food isn't unless you eat the sharma things all the time (bleh)

did you get mugged by gypsies? I assume you didn't get mugged by native Amsterdamian (sp)? I have seen in Italy little kids steal in groups.

that's true- i've heard several cases of people getting mugged. it's not safe to walk around the train station or Red Light Dist at night alone, especially if you're a woman. you just gotta keep your eyes and ears open all the time.
i've also heard alotta stories of theft on the train between Brussels and Amsterdam so if you're going between those two cities, watch your crap.

Actually, i noticed the worst place for pickpocketers was on the train from Schiphol Airport to Duivendrecht. Of course there is crime in amsterdam, but its about the same as any other european city. Hell, my parents got robbed in Paris 2 months ago during a 2 week vacation, yet i lived in Holland for 5 months and never had a single incident.

My friend was just there last year and got mugged by a guy with a rather large knife. In Amsterdam's defense it could happen in any city. As always use common sense, don't go for an evening stroll down an alley or in a park. Stay in populated areas and go in groups. My 2 cents.
