Again, just stop with smart answers pointing to another thread. He asked a fair question and looking for a updated answer from the knowledge people of this forum, that is why he is posting it.

There's nothing to 'update' him with; do you think something has drastically changed in WinXP's memory management in the last week/month?

There's really no need to dredge this topic up AGAIN; it's been beaten to death too many times already. A simple search would have provided all the information the OP needed without creating another useless virtual memory thread. IMO, it's just common courtesy to perform a search before posting a very common question to a public message board.

Nothing has changed with XP Pro 32 bits, but did you look at his rig?

Rig Name: Das' Rig
CPU: AMD 64 X2 3800 @ 2010MHz
Motherboard: Abit KN8 SLI
Memory: 2000 MB of OCZ EL DDR PC-3200 Dual Channel Platinum
Video Card: eVGA (x2) 7800 GT CO 256-P2-N516-AX Nvidia
Hard Drive: WD Raptor 150 (ADFD) 150.0 GB @ 10000 RPMS

You don't think that he is getting ready to upgrade to XP 64 bits and will like to know how to set it up?

Pleaseee, give a break with all the "google this, search that" stuff.

He specifically asked about 32-bit XP Pro with SP2. If he wanted to know about the XP-64 beta he should have asked about that specifically (and he would not have gotten as much crap). Nobody knows what Vista's final version will look like yet in terms of memory management.

Pleaseee, give a break with all the "google this, search that" stuff.

Learn to search before posting redundant questions and you won't have a problem in the first place. kthx.

Then Nothinman or n0cmonkey will point out that few people know what they're talking about when it comes to pagefiles and virtual memory.
Then some n00blet will come in insisting that he knows the ideal pagefile settings.
In the end the thread will die and someone else will start the cycle over in about a day.

HEY I resent that ownsauce you are being, acting insecure and I never, ever once bragged about anything. I don't appreciate that, this was uncalled for. I have only in the past mentioned my parts ONLY so someone could know the specs I had for trying to get help with my system.

That was a LOW blow, "NOW CAN WE JUST DROP ALL OF THIS RAGGING ON ME, I HAVEN'T DONE ANYTHING BUT TRY TO GET SOME HELP

HELLO people we are here to help others and that is what I do and seek the help of others, this is not some Dalnet IRC chat channel so let's all cool it ok, this is getting out of hand.

THANKS

P.S. And you with your 33 posts that just showed up yesterday and you're giving me a hardtime, if you don't want to get banned already for being a troll, keep it up!

I don't believe the page file will actually degrade performance in any way, so just leave it to 1.5 GB or so maybe and you should be fine. The page file is just something to fall back on in case you do run out of memory, so I suggest you keep it. Mine is set at 2046-4092 on my fastest drive (system managed default) and my system nearly never slows down.

Everyone knows that actually it is best to set the paging file to 384MB. But, if you want perfect performance, then take your total ram, divide it by 8, add 128MB, multiply it by 2, take a square root, add the age of your mother (in megabytes), substract your car's licence plate number (do that only if the last number is odd), and finally set it to system managed size...

Things didn't change that much in TWO FRIGGIN' DAYS (the last time this question was asked as compared to when this thread was made)!

It's been discussed to death. You didn't add anything new to the subject, you didn't ask a new question, you asked the same tired shite.

Hell, MrChad gave you the best answer available. If you had just said "thanks!" and not responded like a dweeb we wouldn't be here anymore.

So what if it's been done to death, 280+ views shows he's not the only one interested. I thought this was a place to come for help & other opinions but he's being told to go elsewhere. Some folks don't have time to read through page after page of tripe like this to find an answer & like he said if you don't have something to ADD then you should butt out. It's not YOUR forum or YOUR bandwidth. If you guys crap on every repeated subject thread you see it must keep you very busy working on your superiority complex.

OP: I think windows has to see a page file but you could set it low & make min, max the same.

270 of those are the people telling him to search.

I thought this was a place to come for help & other opinions but he's being told to go elsewhere.

He isn't being told to go else where, he's being asked to have some respect for everyone and search this site.

He isn't adding anything to the forum, he's asking the same tired questions that have been answered a million times. It takes less time to read a thread than it does to post about it and wait for answers.

It's not YOUR forum or YOUR bandwidth. If you guys crap on every repeated subject thread you see it must keep you very busy working on your superiority complex.

We don't ask people to search for every repeated topic, just the tired ones that idiots keep posting.

OP: I think windows has to see a page file but you could set it low & make min, max the same.

What benefit does that provide?

DASFOX has to worry about it less if he lets Windows manage it, plus he won't have to worry about strange errors popping up. And it has the added benefit of Microsoft's programmers' experience with the way the OS they developped handles memory.

Well for the first time ever I placed it on letting Windows manage it, now I'm not sure how these two could be related, but this happened right when I did this.

If for example I take a screenshot with the "Print Screen" key and then paste it into "Paint" then save it as a jpg, THEN when I'm done with this picture throw it away and go through this process all over making and pasting another picture as a jpg the previous one shows up in the save window. Now forgetting I threw it away I click on it, Windows asks if you want to overwrite it and I say yes, then I get another pop saying there was a sharing violation and then I click that and save it.

So it's still showing previous deleted files as if they where still there, what's causing this?

THANKS

Do you have multiple instances of Paint open? Is the original picture still open in another window?

BTW, I don't this issue has anything to do with your pagefile setting.

Finally I see this thread getting back to normal again. Now I know why so many people are golden and platinum members and what not, instead of avoiding stupid confrontations they choose to the contrary, hence their posts account get higher and higher by the minute.

Then why you dont help DASFOX with his question instead of wasting your time, his time and my time with your negativity response?. If you have that actitude with every person/s that ask a repeated question even if it was posted before I'm sorry for them. But as it was said before, if you disagree or don't like it because it was already ask, then dont participate.
