2nd Giant Hog Caught . .

A few years back there was a giant hog killed and displayed as 'Hogzilla' - it supposedly weighed in at 1/2 a ton.

Now near Atlanta another Giant Hog has been found, even bigger than the previous one

National Geographic reconfirmed the 'Original Hogtzilla' but downsized the length and weight, but it was still huge .

Correct me if I am wrong but these wild hogs are supposedly the progeny of European pigs imported by original colonists that escaped and went wild. And after many generations are just getting much bigger.

Is this natural selection---or someone playing with genetics---how big will they grow in the near future?

I believe you are correct - in that sense they are akin to feral cats or dogs. It's interesting that their physical attributes (in terms of size and tusk size) seem to be evolving to life as a wild creature. The idea of an 1,100-pound wild boar roaming around near a huge city in the US (although I imagine it was a rural area) is just wild to me.

Cochon De Lait stuffed with jambalaya. Soooo good. Wouldn't work too well with this guy though.

Wasn't it shot very near to a suburb of Alanta, GA? 1100 pounds and maybe a razorback with tusks could make it very dangerous to people---and never get between a sow and her piglets.

But not in sci-fi range--the suckers ain't bullet proof yet.

I have seen mounted heads of Russian Boar/feral hog mixes that were shot down near Fredricksburg, TX. While not of hogzilla size, they were pretty dang mean looking, and nothing I would want to run into without a large caliber 'friend'. They apparantly escaped from exotic game ranches and have been busy acclimatizing themselves to the great SouthWest. The Javelinas were bad enough.....
