2nd Monitor Not Detected in Windows 7

I have an old ATi Radeon 7000 VE 32 mb AGP graphics card, dual output (1 DVI, 1 VGA) and running Windows 7.

I have not been able to get the 2nd monitor detected by Windows 7. I was able to get dual monitors working under XP. Single monitor output via either DVI or VGA works fine.

I don't do any graphic-intensive tasks (mostly web browsing, spreadsheets and docs). I'd rather not replace this video card, so I'm looking for drivers, software, or any other tips that might help.

That's a Dx7 card, it's completely unsupported in Vista and Windows 7. Are you running a standard VGA driver with it currently?

I believe so; I just used the drivers that Win7 installed on it's own. I tried the old legacy drivers, even though my card wasn't on the list. Needless to say, I couldn't get it to work.

I was thinking about picking up a cheap PCI (not PCI-E) dual output video card. I guess now I have to look for one that supports DX7, right?

The weird thing is that each output works on it's own, but I can't get a dual output.

If your getting a new card and using Windows 7 get a dx 10 card, if you need PCI look at these

That's because dual output is a driver-controlled thingy.

Thanks. I've been shopping around for a PCI, dual output video card that would be compatible with Windows 7. There doesn't seem seem a lot options for a dual DVI option, mostly VGA & DVI.

Beside DX10 support, is there anything I should be looking for to ensure compatibility with Windows 7?

Wow, I'd almost think you'd be better off getting two separate pci cards for dual output. I'm sure some people on the for sale forums have them.
I think anything dx10 should still be supported in windows 7, but the directx9 cards are being dropped.

There's also a quad dvi card on newegg. (uses split adapter cables to get 4 connections)

OK, so I'l go with DX10 cards.

This AGP Radeon card is all I've got. I guess one added benefit of getting a PCI card now is that if I upgrade my system later with a PCI-E, then I will have a PCI card with dual outputs for a possible total of 4 outputs .

Dual DVI is nice, but not really a deal breaker. The lower the price, the better.

And if you upgrade the system, you can get a motherboard with integrated graphics for a few outputs, then a pci-express card for a few more.

Good point. I can hang onto this system for awhile. However, perhaps I'm not seeing the super cheap AGP cards.

Cheapest DX10.1 AGP card $58 here.

Cheapest DX10 PCI card $80 but it uses a single output with a cable splitter.. Will this clone or extend the desktop?

Have fun even if you had a video card that was supported by windows 7 for dual monitors your not going to get it to work.

not true, i have used 3 monitors in win7 with absolutely no problems (running on 3x 3870, monitors only running on first 2 cards)
