I think I'm almost crazy enough to buy 2 of these drives. Does anyone have any benchmarks for a Raid with 2 of these 256g drives.

If you haven't already, I would suggest reading Anand's article about the Vertex 3 and the NAND issue.

It'll be a benchmark queen for sure. I can't imagine it offering significant practical performance benefits over a single drive though.

and people who are "practical" rarely look for performance like this. If you think they aren't better when tasked hard?.. then you don't know what your missin'.

Write even just a little bit and you're hooked to the point that single drives give the illusion that you somehow accidentally booted back to your HDD. lol

Uh, yeah, right.

TWO of those things? (Assuming they're reliable.) Jeez, that would be ridiculously faster in all aspects over any single spindle on the market. Spindles still do OK on sequential transfers against SSDs, but SSDs still have an advantage, and the larger the SSDs are, the more of a performance benefit you get. Also, running two big ones in parallel just raises your performance ceiling. You have more chips striping in parallel.

In short, if you can get two reliable drives, and you can afford, of course go for it. Also make sure to keep backups.

honestly, i think that's why i think my G1 raid0 feels faster than my v3. it's probably not small stuttering at all... i'm just used to the raid0 so even just a single v3 *feels* slow to me.

could be very likely. IIRC, the Intel has 10 channels and is why it excels in real world over some of the faster SSD it competed against. With any SSD.. more channels is always better.

PS sorry for givin' ya a little flack over on your other V3 thread. Hard not to be combative among a sea of combatants, eh? Usually boils down to just messin' with folks who have tunnel vision and gettin' a sick kick outta' it. lol No offense was intended as I was actually trying to help you get through the transition to the V3.

Was still curious if you ever tried to run the V3 with the default MSAHCI driver instaed of the Intel? If it's lagging then something is up, most likely a driver issue as others are seeing with the P67's. Well.. none of the Intel guys.. but you know what I mean. LOL

i took no offense, that's why i just let it die off (and changed the title) before angry trolls showed up. it's really not lagging as far as i can tell. i think it's just my perception. i did try the default driver and it still seemed the same. i had to do some troubleshooting on my wife's desktop last night and she has an x25-e. the way it was acting felt "similar" in regular usage. obviously benchmarks would show the v3 raping it though. i guess there's just something about raid... i may just pick up another v3 240GB and raid0 them. then i'll have nothing to bitch about

Not my array and don't play games at all, Adam. My 6 drive array is a bit faster and I doubt that it means much more than squat for FPS. Level loads would be near instant though. lol

The 5850 Black Edition I use was a "just in case I want to play" and happened to be on sale when I finished my build last year.
