I'm looking to put in 2GB of memory into my Asus A8N and I'm thinking about doing some light/medium overclocking. I'm in the process of getting a Thermalright XP-90 and Panaflo 92mm for the cpu as well as doing some case moding etc.. But what I lack is ram, I've found 4x256 sucks for OCing as well as the fact that 1GB isn't enough for me because I run too many apps simultaneously ^_^... So, what do you all suggest?

How much do you plan to spend?

Right now, there's really only one 2GB kit that'll get you overclock speed, others are sorta hit and miss.

Crucial Ballistix PC4000 it'll run 250MHz, right now I have it running at 3-3-3-8 at 255@2.7V. My 3700 is running at 2.8GHz, stable. Cost is like 370.00 though.

DAMN THEIR PRICE WENT UP ON THEIR SITE

Newegg

They have the ones with the lights. I needed the RAM bad so I bought those, they're priced seperately so you gotta buy two.

I hear there are some decent Mushkin can OC to 250 also, these are it I believe

That's all that I know for now, good luck, and let me us know if you find any better

Pick up the 2GB OCZ Platinum (1024x2mb) pair of PC-3200 which run at stock DDR-400 speeds of 2-3-2-5 1T. You can just loosen up the timings when overclocking. OCZ even provides room for overclocking in their warranty support (which is a lifetime guarantee, btw). They're a beautiful pair of DIMMs with shiny platinum heatspreaders...it's like looking into a mirror

Looks the issue becomes whether or not to push good PC3200 past SPD to overclock or get PC4000 and underclock it while tightening the timings. What's better?

Can I buy two 1GB sticks of those seperately and still get the same result or they have to be bought in pairs?

Thanks

Sure thing. You dont' have to buy them in pairs; it's just "recommended" to do so because they've been previously tested to work together without any problems. You likely won't encounter any issues when buying separate 1GB sticks.

Here's the part # of the 1GB stick: OCZ4001024ELPE

Here's the part # for the 2GB pair: OCZ4002048ELDCPE-K

That's what I have on my system right now. I linked you to those in my post up top. I run 2 of them at 260MHz at 2.7V at 3-3-3-8 timings, stable. I memtested them stable up to 268MHz @ 2.8V 3-3-3-8. I don't run them that high cause my San Diego needs to run at 1.55V for it to run prime95 stable for more than an hour and a half.

As far as I know, that's the highest speed 1GB stick available, I could be wrong.

Crap. I'm upgrading soon, and was thinking of buying 2 x Corsair value select 1gb. You're saying that will be bad for overclocking? But i thought I could just run a divider and not worry about the RAM. Would 4 x 512 be better for overclocking, because both cost the same from where I will be purchasing from.

You'll be fine w/ getting 2x1gb of Corsair value select ram. From Anand's article from today, using higher speed ram instead of memory dividers gets you only a few percentage points in performance.
