Pretty good price for 4GB kit. Too bad it requires 2.1V though, so YMMV depending on your motherboard. Boy RAM is so cheap nowadays.

Almost forgot, get an additional 4% off pre-rebate price via MS Cashback. That'll work out to: 84.99 - 3.40 - 35 (MIR) = 46.59. Free ship!

I've used OCZ 2GB kits in the past that require 2.1v, and they will boot at 1.8v, though like I said, YMMV. It depends greatly on motherboard. I've had great success with Asus and Abit. Ordered one. Will let you know how this fairs on an Abit IP35 Pro. Couldn't resist due to the awesome price.

I have all 16 gigs of this RAM in both rigs in my sig. I haven't had any problems whatsoever. These have been butter in my systems. This is a great price for these.

Its compatible with that board for sure... you can raise the voltage really high, but I have never heard of ram having a problem because of low voltage unless you overclock.

Generally ram is rated at speeds at certain voltage so if, and this is big if, your mobo only did 1.8v then the mobo would just use more relaxed timings.

That mobo though is pretty good i have the P35 ds3l rev 2
http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Pro...ec.aspx?ProductID=2629

which can be had on ebay with the coupon for like 65 shipped...

both work nearly 100% with OSX too

Any comment on overclocking? My 4x1GB of OCZ DDR2-800 are holding back my overclock, since they're a year or two old and can only reach ~440MHz.

This OCZ2P8004GK kit from Newegg is (as of 8-18-08) going for $51.99 free ship, after $30 mail in rebate. They have the same timings and are listed as approved for the Asus P5Q-E motherboard. And Newegg has 5.5% Cash Back through Live.com. However, some people will have to pay tax through Newegg (like me )

Edit: Zip appears to charge tax in California, so for me, I prefer the Newgg deal since it's expressly covered by the mobo I'm looking to get.

Oh and it probably will be fixed, but for a laugh TigerDirect has a listing for the SLI kit in the OP listed for $24.99 after rebate. Of course, that's because their site is stacking two overlapping $35 rebates for 70 off.

some newegg reviewers say these don't OC very high, about 900 at relaxed timings. So depending on what you use it for have to take this into account.

To be quite honest, I'm new to overclocking. These 8400's were my 1st ever OC & I did so simply by changing the CPU FSB & left everything else on Auto, so the boards changed the RAM settings for me.

I don't know if the RAM is preventing my 2nd rig from hitting 4.0 or not, but I did hit 4.0 when I initially built these back in January. The 2nd rig is no longer stable at 4.0 & won't even boot at 4.0 anymore. I don't know the cause of that, but both systems run fine at their current settings & OC.

Of course, you do understand it requires the 2.1V to run at DDR2-800 speeds, right? Set at "normal" voltages and it'll default to an SPD setting of DDR2-667 when run at 1.8V.

That is not true at all. When the motherboard reads the SPD settings, it does not take into consideration the memory voltage. If you pop these into a motherboard that support DDR2 800 speed, it will boot at 800 MHz according to the SPD, regardless of the voltage. That's why some people are having trouble - their board is not stable at 1.8v and 800MHz so they cannot even go into the BIOS to bump up the voltage. As I've said in a prior post, I've run OCZ memory (2GB kit which claims to require 2.1v) at 800MHz on 1.8v stable, on an Asus motherboard. BTW, that board was a P5B-VM, which only let you set memory up to 1.9v. Never had a hiccup on that setup.
