3.0c / 2.8c know its been asked before

Havnt ordered my CPU yet because I want to make sure I get the best CPU for my water cooled system. Do the 3.0c's on the market have a good chance of being m0 stepping with 30 caps. I keep reading that all the 2.8s out there seem to be D1 and dont o/c very well

There is a 2.8 M0 stepping that has 30 caps, and is a good ocer. As for the 3.0 there are 3 spec #'s but they are D1 steppings. Some are 30 caps and others aren't. It is pretty much luck of the draw. From what I have seen the 3.0 is a good ocing chip.

I got a M0 from newegg and ZZF, so like Aristo said, it's basically luck of the draw.

a good 2.8C might go 3.4-3.5 and higher, my 2.8C D1 only went to 3.29
a 3.0C, i've read, will usually go around 3.4-3.5 and higher

ok thanks for the clarification. I wonder if I went to frys if I could find someone that would let me find a 30 cap 3.0 hehe because with swiftech watercooling I figure Ill get the highest OC with that

You all don't have shops were you can look for the product spec# on the box? There are plenty of shops here in Japan were I have seen M0's.

where's the stepping info located on the box? in the product code? i have a 2.8 that does 3.47 on stock voltage 24/7 but don't know if it's an m0 or not. my 3.2's arriving today. we'll see how far that goes and keep the faster of the two .

The 2.8C M0 are SL6Z5 product code - I have mine at 266MHz-3.725GHz. I have heard of several of the 30 cap 3.0's hitting 250MHz FSB on air.

I've a 2.8c D1 stepping OCed to 3.5GHz at 1.45 vCore (default is 1.525v) with Kingston HyperX PC4000 running at 1:1. It can do 3.6 at default voltage, but I like to keep my computer cool. My CPU has 30 cap, eventhough it's not M0. I bought it from Frys with pack data of 05/05. So it's really luck of the draw. From what I have read, the latest 2.8c D1's are much better at overclocking than the older ones.

just thought id let you all know I went to Frys in Plano and a guy was real cool went to the back and looked for an SL6Z5 and found one for me. Walking in and walking out with it took me maybe 15 mins. Impressed to say the least.
