I suspect my 3.2 prescott is overheating and causing spontaneous shutdowns the last two weeks.
Three months ago, I built a new system with a ASUS P4P800SE and Antec 1650 case with 350 watt PS.
It ran fine for a couple of months, and I was able to overclock it 10% with no problems. Slowly, I began having some issues, so I returned the CPU to default settings. Just in the last week, my computer has spontaneously shut down once or twice a day. Once, with no programs running and the screensaver going. An hour ago, after 30 minutes of computer inactivity, I went back to the computer and found ASUS probe was reporting a cpu overheating situation. It reported 87C/188F. I shut down the computer, waited 10 minutes, and restarted. It's now running normally at 53C/127F.
Does anybody have any ideas what I should look for in resolving the problem. I checked the case fan and CPU fan, and they are working. ASUS probe is reporting voltages as OK.
