Been eyeing this thread for a few days now, I may move my account from addr.com. I may have a few questions after i read through all the posts.
sounds much better than the deal I have currently.

3-95.com seems like a good deal, but I'd really like shell access (via ssh). Can anyone recommend a good hosting provider that offers such service?

Gary, I was about to email you with this question, but I found the answer on 3-95.com's FAQ.

Hey gary,

when are you going to get some JSP on your boxes? I need hosting with JSP/Servlets!!!!!
If your interested at all, resin is nice, but costs, but is cheap, then there's always tomcat...

thx

If you want Shell access, I think that can be done, but I'm sure it is at Gary's discretion.

He'll probably want an image of your driver's license or something else he can use to hunt you down if bad stuff happens. ;(

email to him.

OMG this thread is simply neat! I have no idea what half of you are talking about but where can I learn more, somewhat simplified information for a guy wanting to start into this and possibly run his own server?

I tried Tomcat, it hit the system too hard for resources I mean it really sucked down some ram, it also made it so that adding accounts took like 3 minutes, it really annoyed me. When I setup a non RaQ server I might try it out again, probably within 2 months hopefully.

I used readyhosting in the past. Their support SuX!, my site was down at least 1 hour per day. I found out that my site was beign served on a Pentium 2 266 with 512MB ram, and I was sharing the server with around 45 other people. I changed to Burlee.com, I've had no problems with their service, the email support is SUPER FAST!!!!!. I highly recommend them.

For those people who got in on this deal here is a little tip that may be usefull. I wanted a catch-all email address for my domain so I asked Gary and here is the solution:

These are great as you get mail for all the unused email addresses on the domain.Linked

MaxChaos: I currently have a website at readyhosting.com. So far it's OK I guess. But just in case I need to switch to another host, how promptly did readyhosting refund the remainder of your annual charge? (I assume you were also on their $99 annual plan?)

Thanks.

I've heard of people putting over 600 domains on a 1ghz with a gig ram! Eesh.

It does depend greatly on the types of sites, if you're sharing that 266 with a bunch of "hi here are pictures of my reunion, here's my kids" types of sites, then heck you could put over a hundred or more on that server. Throw 1 or 2 halfway popular message forums on there, and you can't host a half dozen!

Major props to the guys at 3-95.com. I moved my site over to them this week and I couldn't be more pleased. They were very prompt in getting it set up and tech support was quick to answer and very patient with a newbie webmaster. Thanks for the lead to this Hot Deal.

I think that I'll do this deal. Looks like a can't-lose.

Just wanted to add my input regarding hosts. Two years ago a friend and I were working as resellers of computer equipment. We had a rather large database of products that we updated daily and then fed (or tried to feed) to an OLM.net hosted Miva Merchant system.

When push came to shove and we couldn't get the 70+MB database to integrate with Miva everyday, we were basically told there was nothing they could do for us. We would have to pay for a dedicated server. Ok, can you guarantee that will fix the problem? No. Can you increase the timeout? No. On and on.

Needless to say, I was very unimpressed. Their support system was tiered, so to get through to anyone with clout took a week of call/callback effort.

Well, I signed up for the 3.95 account about an hour and a half ago and it is already up and accessable.

I'm *very* impressed with Gary's service and will probably be opening more accounts and definately be referring people to him.

Hot deal!

Karsten, are you sure you have the right address? I've received replies before I've had the chance to hit the "send" button.

Karsten,

I got your message on January 9th at 1:51PM
I sent the response to your message on January 9th at 2:01PM

The reply address was an @delta.com address.

It may have bounced, I get so many bounce messages (due to being the alias for the postmaster) that I do not read them all, I get hundreds every day it'd be impossible.

I will resend the message now.

Edit: I didn't see your post here until just now, I don't get a chance to visit here each time someone responds to the thread I just now resent your response, if you don't recieve this one either please PM me here or just post.

Edit #2: I just checked the maillogs, the message I just sent you did not bounce for sure:

I cancelled at the end of the annual plan. The funny thing was that they charged me $99 again for another term. They refunded me the $99 after two months.

Sorry, mystuffs, that's a little vague. Best for what? I think Gary's $3.95 special is the best deal going.
