Just once I would like to have a "normal" piece of hardware. Or maybe I have excellent tastes while others go for the so so equipment. My case is the deep blue Aspire Super Alien. No matter what picture you have seen of this particular color you will be surprised at how stunning the actual case looks. Admitedly, the "eyes" look a bit hooky but I got used to it and I am willing to bet that I am far older than you are.

My original attraction was that I wanted a see through case. Now that I have one I realize that most of the shots shown on the web are without the 10,000,000 wires going all over the place. Clean looking on the outside, the case is kind of cluttered looking inside no matter how much I try to wrap lose wiring.

OK, here's what you get with this case. It can be purchased with an colored Aspire 550w PS that looks really sharp. Mine came with a 420w Turbolink which I later switched out for a 480w Thermatake. Nothing wrong with the Turbolink but everyone knocks it so I decided better safe than sorry. Finally, you can get the case with no PS and later pick you own. Try www.xtremegear.com for the various combinations.

The front temp panel is kind of a waste. I could never figure how to actually connect the wiring to the CPU. I just use SpeedFan and let it sit on my tool bar showing me all the temps I need to now about. I didn't connect the Firewire either since my mobo already came with a rear set up. I did connect the front USBs. I also connected the two fan controls with one running the front two led lit ones and the other running the back two, side one, and top one. The 6 fans make a lot of noise relatively speaking. My next fantasy case with have two large 120 fans.

As you already know the HD are mounted sideways. I really like that although it does mean more wiring in your face. However, it's a literal snap to get them in and out. The case is so large that most everything is easily accessible. The side panel comes off and goes back on so easy that all manufactures should do the same. The mobo is removeable but not from the rear. When fully loaded you will not be lifting it out without a hassle of wires everywhere.

If you have any more questions just shout. I love the look of my case and found it to be fairly easy to work with. At the same time my tastes are moving towards the new SilverStones or Thermaltake with their sleek looks. The SilverStone Temjin TJ05 that is reviewed on this site today is absolutely stunning in appearance but $166 plus shipping and without a PS is out of my range.

first 2 are nice, the last one looks like something you would pick up for 20 bucks at a comp shop. Or the type of case they put crappy computer parts in to make the computer look good.

momma mia!! that is nice, where did you get those badges? i need a A64 one, thats a nice case but it would probably be found for as low as 140$ or something, which is too high, so i will stick BTW these 3 cases, looks like i am leaning towards the prateorian again

more opinons appreciated!!

I get my case stickers from Shadowmajik. Admittedly, too many stickers tend to make the case look rather tacky. Really breaks the cleans lines of this case, but hey, I like being reminded of what I have in there

Anyway, is this the AMD64 one you're refering too?

You can request these from AMD, but I forgot the product code and where the request form is located at on their site.

YES thats the case badge i want when i bought my cpu/mobo combo it did not come with that, if i can get if for free from amd that is awesome

also what does case speaker mean? which is a con in the Tsunami case, i would like to know the signifigance of that

Case speaker is the funny device sounding beeps when something is wrong on boot. There are beep codes for certain failures so a case speaker might be useful if something doesn't work. It helps you identify the problem. Other than that, it's pretty much useless.

Praetorian is nice.
I hate cases with doors, they are stupid.
You can get an optional side panel for the Praetorian, and drive fronts too that will match the case (optional extras, but they will make it look pretty )

I have a Praetorian sitting across the room from me (other PC) and a Centurion (ATC-201) as my own case.
Both are quite nice to work with, althout I prefer the motherboard tray of the Centurion.

Of those three I think the Tsunami is pretty cool, but you can go wrong with the CoolerMaster, their cases are all really nice.

UPS just delivered my Kingwin KT-424 (black, no window) case, and it looks slick - I like simple, clean lines, and this has it in spades. It's all black brushed aluminum, looks really nice. The side panel has no latch, just two thumb screws in the back, and you have to slide it back, then out. This I don't mind, since the overall cleaness of the case is just too nice. Sliding mobo tray, two 80 mm fans in front of the HD's with a filter, one in the back. And light! $80 on zipzoomfly for an all aluminum case, definitely my top recommendation.

My Superalien review:

Pretty well designed except TOO MUCH PLASTIC on an "aluminum" case. The entire front is plastic. The model I received (420W) does not come with 80mm front fans - purchase them separately.

The good:

1.Includes four 80mm fans --two of the are blue lighted LED fans> I think ther are more on the 500w PS model.

2. VERY Lightweight. - >plastic and alumminum

3. 5.25" drive rails for easy installs (see the bad as well).

4. Side mounted HD slot w/five 3.5" hard drive trays- very convenient and easy to remove/install.

5. The FDD cage can be taken out for installation.

6. Blue LED rheobus w/dual temperature display and two fan speed controls mounted in the front bezel.

7. The two temp sensors are fairly accurate.

8. The fans are easily removed/installed

9. Includes a decent 420w PS and plenty of MB/HD/DVD/CD installation screws.

The Bad:

1. PLASTIC FRONT DOOR & HINGE-- The top hinge broke off within the first 10 minutes of ownership. I had to epoxy it. I hope it will hold. >> UPDATE still holding- use plastic weld epoxy.

2. Plastic rivets used on the top and side fan grills--instead of fan grill screws. To change the fan grills, I had to burn the plastic rivets off and replace them with real metal screws.

3. 5.25" drive rails are made of mediocre plastic- be gentle with them. Pinching the drive rails to remove the drives doesn't always do the job--requires some extra force to remove the 5.25 drives.

4. No intake fan filter on the front fans or side fan- This something minor-- but Aspire could include fan filters.

5. Side door gets slightly stuck and requires some force to open & close.

6. removable motherboard tray is mostly useless since you have to take out all PCI/AGP cards to install/uninstall.

7. needs long 24" IDE cables to reach the HD bay

8. Front door has a red colored, bulbous panel (which make the alien-like eyes) held in by plastic rivets--so, it is going to be difficult to remove and replace it.

9. The IEEE1394 -firewire cable connector module looked exaclty the same as the USB2 cable--trouble with ASUS MB as the connectors are completely different (needs individual Firewire lines in).

UPDATE : Aspire CSR was very helpful and offered to swap F/W cable for the correct one.

Out of those, I would say the Tsunami. Its one of the best cases for under $150 imo. Although I prefer the Lian-LI aluminum cases with window. The ONLY thing I'd change on it is to make the window a rectangle instead of the X shape. But all you need is a handy dremel and you are set

I like windows, but wish more would just do the straight rectangle. I dont like alot of bling bling or "xtreme" shapes ect on my cases. But I do like to be able to see inside without removing panels.
