considering the $30 shipping brings the price up to $319, i would consider the $379/389 core2duo e4300 deal from a week or two back to be a better deal. better/faster processor, had a larger hard drive, a dvd-rom/cd-rw drive, and the 389 system had non-integrated video.

that deal only lasted 2 or 3 days. but it's likely a similar deal will show up again soon. so if you don't need a system right now, i would recommend waiting for that again.

You can get the same deal with XP or Vista basic for $50 more but since those machines have free shipping it actually ends up only costing about $23 more to get it with an OS.

Thats where YOU provide the shipping so either way you pay for it whether its you that designate the carrier or them.

The no M$ OS option came about due to pressure from Linux users who were sick of paying for pre-installed Windoze machines.

The "Designated Carrier" is your own shipping account. IE you are paying the shipping on your tab either way...

Even though I didn't really need another computer, i couldn't pass it up! Added the video card and dual-layer burner. If its over $399 its free shipping too for those adding some features.

optical drive upgrades are terrible on dells. they charge 40$ for a 35$ drive. might as well keep the std one and buy another

all new Dell comes with SATA only. Finding a SATA optical drive can be a bitch though.

The same people who have a hard time buying a car because they all come with windows.

The E520 and E521 will only fit single slot video cards. So no 8800 series. The good thing is that the power supply will run any single slot video card I can think of, 7950 GT, X1950 Pro included.

Did anyone buy, receive, and setup one of these boxes?

I'm wondering how quiet they are -- specifically the Intel box.

oh boy these are hot and the line is long. Just brought one for my friend over the weekend with Vista basic included and only 512meg of ram for 339 and they won't be able to ship til July. Gonna throw in a cheap 2gig of ram, 500gig HD and it will last at least a few years for her.

More quiet than any PC I've ever built.
