I got my email with my code but I'm a tad leery of the software and if it might contain spyware (I've not installed it yet but I just have a bad feeling). I'll wait until you guys tell me I'm dumb and to install the software to get my 3 songs.

Isn't it just a little bit ironic, that a few years ago, when "free music via Kazaa" was a big thing, and the RIAA and friends started to crack down on that because it was "just wrong". Now that all of these legal music-download site have started up, the only thing that I've seen over the last few months to a year, is "free music downloads!!!" from a sizable number of sites(Pepsi/Apple/etc.). If this keeps up, we'll all just be rolling in free music downloads, almost the same way as before. (But with a big difference, the labels are still sneakily allowed to control what we are allowed to download, and thus hear. They still think that they should be able to dictate musical taste, and that such actions make good business sense.)

I still have two "Free month of Rhapsody.com" music-download service trial CDs that I have no idea what I plan to do with. (WTH, they came with a free blank CD-R inside the case.)

The new iTunes can convert WMA to AAC so I think it's ok.

I doubt it can convert protected WMA files though, and most of these downloadable dealios are protected.

since I have so many e-mail addresses I decided to sign up a few of them, I guess if you were bored enough you could sign up 2000 e-mail addresses to get 6000 downloads lol. I wonder if there's an expiration date for these credits, or could I just load up now and get free downloads forever...that way in case kazaa and the like finally do get killed off I will have music forever.

Yea but what good is 60,000 downloads of a bunch of crap they couldn't pay you to listen to? I'll check it out but from past experiences I'll be lucky to find 3 songs I want. Not crapping on the thread just the music industry

I'm not trying to advocate anything, but when they say 3 *FREE* downloads, does this give us the right to download and listen to it anyway we want?

So..could we..ummmm...."convert" these protected wma's to .mp3 or something?

I'm just asking..not trying to steal or anything.....

You get the same as you would from buying the track for 99 cents, its now a file in a folder on your system which can be burned to a cd or transfered to "some" devices (thats not too clear.)

I've had mixed results, first try was via my yahoo.com email address, and I must have messed up the signup somehow. I didn't write down my password, didn't give any credit card info, but it still seemed happy and opened Windows Media Player with MusicNow as a premium service, and I did the buy thing for Slipknot/Duality, it was free and downloaded and plays fine.

Later on I couldn't sign back in, and none of the password recovery recognized me, so I uninstalled and tried again. This time it wouldn't let me not enter a credit card, didn't have my remaining 2 free tracks, but 5 min later I had a new yahoo email with a new mach3 code, and it liked that fine. Windows Media player still shows the Slipknot track and plays it fine, and I was also able to download another track.

As for usage, the big thing is that its much slower than Rhapsody, so no way I keep it after the 7 day free trial. Also seems like a LOT fewer tracks.
