Wow! I just started my process to set up Telocity via the 1-month free deal. This a much better deal. Does anyone know if I can get this deal via Real instead of the measly 1-month free deal?

OK In order to do this you have to cancel your order and start over by going through the link from realplayer (obtained by purchasing their player). here is the link

http://www.real.com/goldpass/telocity/

Keep in mind that Realplayer has a 30 money back guarantee

This seems like a hot deal but...I'm already with Telocity and don't wanna mess up the whole thing 'cus it took me a full 6-month process for them to set up the connection via P'bell.....speed is great if you can get one.

there is a code of REALNET if you call telocity and sign up over the phone.

s&h for modem is 24.95 (non-refundable)

for some reason when i called telocity, they are giving me the impression that i do not even need to purchase the software from real.com and all i'm liable for is the S&H fee.
i just got off ph w/ real.com again.
they are telling me that i must remain a member of gold pass for the entire 3 months in order to receive the 3 free months from telocity.
in this is case this SUCKS
total costs
24.95+9.95+9.95+29.95
not that cheap!!

---
let me add this in also.
from the calls i have made to both telocity and real
both sides seems not to know completely the fine print for the deal.
from telocity side seems you don't have to do anything, where from real, it seems, you must remain a member
i'm posting stuff as they told me. i'm not wiling to gamble on this.

Hey, uh, Bangsailio... that dslreports.com. It's not www.dslreports.com, is it? Needless to say, I went to www.dslreports.com.. and ther wasn't anything about DSL on there. I wouldn't go there if you were at work either. Did I mess up the URL? Is it just dslreports.com with no www?

www.dlsreports.com is nasty stuff, actually dslreports.com and www.dslreports.com would be the same domain so it shouldn't make a difference depending on whether they have an alias. As for telocity and Real.com I think if you buy the software you should be OK, all they say on their site is buy realplayer plus and get 3 months free, no mention of the gold member requirement. Plus after you buy it they link you off to telocity and their is no mention of real audio when you sign up. Does anyone really believe that real audio and telocity are going to be able to somehow synch their user databases to keep track of this - Telocity couldn't even switch my promotion I had to cancel my order an replace it.

i just spoke to telocity.

the woman i spoke with said i needed to give them
a serial number from real networks though to get free 3 months.

what would happen if someone accidently used a number that worked?

Just use this link http://www.real.com/goldpass/telocity/ it should get you the deal online only. I am not too impressed with telocity so far, a guy in the billing department told me to call him and he would bump my order to the head of the line (since I had to cancel and re order) I have been on hold for 56:13 seconds to talk to their billing department. strage I can get through to sales in about 3 minutes.

Just signed up online. First three months free, $25 shipping. You don't need to do anything related to Real, except use the link posted in this thread.

Heads up though - your local rate applies. Here in D.C., its $49.95, not $30. But again, three months free, so just dump it after three months if you want.

Bangsailio, dslreports co range finder might be inaccurate. Why don't you give telocity a call. Their sales rep are probably the nicest sales ppl that I ever spoken to.

do you get to keep the modem, or do you have to ship it back? If we can keep it, this would combine great with winfire.com after the 3 months are up.

Seems to me that there are 2 separate deals on the Real site. Top right hand corner you have to pay $30 for RealPlayer Plus plus 2 months of RealPlayer Gold Pass @9.95. So, $30= Realplayer Plus and $20 for the 2nd and 3rd month of GoldPass for total of $50 to Real.

At the bottom of the same page you can buy RealPlayer Plus for $30 with no mention of GoldPass, = total $30. The hotlink to download RealPlayer Plus is right below the picture of the modem.

Anyone else see it this way?

That person in billing was lying to you if he said he could bump you to the top... I work customer care for verizon dsl and there is no way to get your order escalated any quicker than anyone elses. I wont be working there much longer but from my experience, customer care and most every department lies to customers just to get them off the phone. They go at their pace and that's it, nothing you can do.

The more I thought about this deal, and after speaking to 2 Telocity reps, I decided it was a good deal after all.
Yeah, $30 for RealPlayer 8 (and you have to be careful cause Real tries to sneak some other crap into your order that is another $30, but you can delete that crap from your "cart". $25 to ship the modem and you have to pay $10 each for 2 of the 3 months for some other Real Gold crap. So, I will be out of pocket $75 for 3 months of DSL. I don't know anywhere else you can use DSL for 3 months for $75. There is no contract, but you do not own the modem. So after 89 days, I will call and cancel, returning the modem will be $5. The external modem works either with an ethernet card or if you have USB ports, you don't need the ethernet card. Comparing this to the Verizon service available where I live, you get 1 month free and if you cancel and return the modem, you have spent only what it cost to return the modem. But they do require a one year contract (with the first month free), so if you kept it for more than 30 days, say 3 months, like the Telocity deal, you would be paying 0$ first month, $40 each for months 2 and 3, and $99 for the modem (they will not take it back after the first 30 days). So for my $75, I am going to go with Telocity. By the way, this is for 640K download speed. If you live close enough to the CO some companies can provide up to 7 Meg download (for $190 a month).

Perhaps this is not a smokin hot deal, but it ain't bad either. After I have tried it for 3 months, I might be willing to spend $40 on DSL. Telocity is betting that people will be so hooked after 3 months that they won't cancel. Verizon only gives you 30 days to get hooked.

If this thread is still alive, I will try to update on how it goes. My email this morning had my order confirmation and said that things should start cooking in 6-10 business days with modem delivery about a week after that. Then you have 10 days to hook it up and get started.
