3 Most over-rated bands ever

Here are my choices of the 3 most over-rated bands ever, including some (dis)honourable mentions:

3. Nirvana - grunge blows and its dead. So is he, just let it go.

2. Metalica - actually makes Motorhead sound talented

1. Oasis - Beatles wannabees, may have talent but its overshadowed by egos the size of England. Its a bad idea to base a career on imitating another band with an even bigger ego.

And the runners up:

Grunge Bands - yup, they should all just stop.
Post-Grunge Bands - please, for the love of God, stop.
Queen - 'nuff said
Pearl Jam - covering a song from the '50s is a sign of a dead career. pack it in boys.
Beatles - Bigger than Jesus, my a$$
Van Halen - a few catchy songs but not as great as Eddie thinks he is
U2 - just plain boring

well, that's my list. Don't take it too seriously. I am very sleepy.

I never got understood why Nirvana is so special.

Their reputation simply because immortalized due to his timely death. I don't see their music any more groundbreaking and special than your typical grunge angst bands...

I've only listened to eight or so bands, so from there I say...

AC/DC (Back in Black is the only good one)
Guns n Roses (no good albums, but a few good songs)
Metallica (Every album after RTL got worse and worse)

for those of you who are putting up blink 182, good charlotte, fallout boy, etc... I don't really consider them "overrated" because their concerts are infested with dumb kids. Critically, they do very poorly and most people think they are crap anyways.

dmb is a good band and there is a reason they have alot of devoted fans..... carter is the shiznit on the drums, almost as good as mr. portnoy... technically, but i really like what he plays, regardless of technical ability..

metallica? they arent overrated... just alot of fans, and yes, everything after the black cd was nonsense...

who said eddie van halen wasnt good? ur nuts! as a guitarist who is obsessed with my technical skills and honest emotion in playing, i must say there is a definate reason eddie got famous...

U2 is probably the most over-rated band ever. What a bunch of pretentious, arrogant bozos. Specially Bono, with this 'holier-than-thou-Rockstar Mother theresa-riding-on limousines-give me my noble peace prize already-can't you see I-look-cool-in-iPod-ads!!?-'attitude

Their music is simplistic, droning drivel; the lyrics are floaty, nonsensical hodgepodges which try to create a false illusion of depth.

And to those who said Metallica: you probably have never listened to anything other than the Black album and the Loads, and the radio singles. Master of Puppets and ...And Justice for All! are some of the most complex and influential records in the history of metal, even if their later material does suck.

Oh, and I'll personally hunt you down and stab you to death with my guitar (see sig!)....YAAR!

They were the model for every other typical grunge angst band. That is why they are held so high.

Most of the people listed in this thread are regarded so high because of their impact on music and not because of their actual music.

his cult of personality is only exceeded by Rick James.

Give me Clapton, Jeff Beck or Jimmy Page any day.

dmb is good...that was a pretty talented group of musicians. dave matthews was pretty creative with his chet atkins in his early stuff

hate u2 and the beatles all you want, but they probably have the most staying power and cross-generational appeal of any bands in the past 50 years

Indeed. Nirvana were the flagship band of the grunge movement, which DID revolutionize the music industry. They pretty much single-handedly desintegrated the hair metal (Poison, RATT, W.A.S.P., Twisted Sister, etc.) scene that was so popular in the 80s.

And of course, Cobain died an untimely death. That pretty much launched them into 'Legendary' status.

I pretty much think any band "singing" about politics and government is stupid. It doesnt change anything except getting a bunch of pre-pubescent rebels all riled up.
