1. Beastie Boys........what's sad is that I hear they're still making what they called music? Geez, that's not sad, it's pathetic! :disgust:

2. GNR.....3 halfway decent songs does not a great band make, unless they were like GNR, and came out in the late 80's. Let's face it, they looked like a bunch of escapees from a masquerade party at an insane asylum. Definitely a one-hit wonder type band, to the 3rd power.

3. just about any "band" that does hip-hop or rap....let's face it, they're not making music, for the most part. They're rhyming, oftentimes badly, speaking instead of singing (thought there's a lot of bands that came out in the 90's that can be accused of having a lead singer that couldn't sing!! ), and scratching records. Wow......and you make a million putting out that drivel?? Just shows you that the record industry can truly cram anything down the throats of mindless sheeple!!

Honorable mention - anyone who gets caught lip-syncing!! :|

One-hit wonder? Paradise City, Sweet Child O'Mine, Welcome To The Jungle, Patience, November Rain, Knockin' on Heaven's Door, Don't Cry, Civil War just to name a few in their short lived career. And what does appearance have to do with a band being over-rated or not?

Anything EMO, but three that come to mind:

Fallout Boy
Death Before Disco
Good Charlotte

The only thing worse then these bands are the fans of these bands.

I would have listed every rap artist I have ever heard of, but I don't consider rap artists as bands because:
- They all rap about the same stuff...one rap artist just blends into another, with behavior being the only thing that really distinguishes them as unique
- They sample music of much more talented artists
- I just don't understand the appeal...and I am talking to you white suburban kid blasting this crap in your Honda Civic.

3. Nirvana - grunge blows and its dead. So is he, just let it go.

2. Metalica - actually makes Motorhead sound talented

1. Oasis - Beatles wannabees, may have talent but its overshadowed by egos the size of England. Its a bad idea to base a career on imitating another band with an even bigger ego.

And the runners up:

Grunge Bands - yup, they should all just stop.
Post-Grunge Bands - please, for the love of God, stop.
Queen - 'nuff said
Pearl Jam - covering a song from the '50s is a sign of a dead career. pack it in boys.
Beatles - Bigger than Jesus, my a$$
Van Halen - a few catchy songs but not as great as Eddie thinks he is
U2 - just plain boring

well, that's my list. Don't take it too seriously. I am very sleepy.

You should change this thread's title to "Three Bands I hate"

Yeah, we can't take him seriously. I bet he thought Kanye sucked b/c he had scratches on his album and is a "one hit wonder". LOL

He said it was that type of band, not that it was literally a one hit wonder band. There are some bands that fit the bill... basically any band that puts out an album with 1-2 songs written by record producers specifically to be singles with radio time and the rest filler crap actually written by the (generally untalented) artists. I don't think GNR fits the bill, but to each his own.

He said they were a one hit wonder band literally, I don't know where you're getting this. He is saying that they and every band like them (type) are one hit wonders:

Then he goes on to say all hiphop/rap isn't music. Can't take him seriously. BTW, rjd2 and dangermouse > * /thread

That's not how I interpret the quote. There are some bands that are two-hit and three-hit wonders. Those bands are not literally one hit wonders. But they are one hit wonder type bands, IMO. There were in fact a bunch of them in the 80's. But I am not agreeing that GNR is one of them.

Anyway it's hard to take anyone seriously when they assess music. I like the people who think there is some huge difference betwee not liking a band that his highly rated and thinking the band is overrated.

Bob Dylan
Rolling Stones
KISS/Doors (tie)

For those that think Pink Floyd is overrated, have you ever read the backstory on the music? They were doing things musically and inventing new techniques of mixing that were years ahead of their time. They truely were pioneers. I bet most of you kids think the sounds are all computer-generated or made with keyboards, but primarily they were made using multi-track (as many as 24) mixing on REEL TO REEL equipment.

*KISS has to be the most overrated "band" ever, not a single song worth a replay. Considered a joke by my peers, their commercial success is well above any kind of music talent. KISS is the "professional wrestling" of music.

*runner up.......Prince. While at least having some decent material, not even close to deserving the accolades laid on him. Induction into the Rock and Roll HOF ahead of "real" rock bands that play "rock and roll" was pitiful and insulting.

*3rd....tie Partridge Family/The Archies. The Partridge Family actually had some good pop tunes, and The Archies had "sugar sugar", but both these contrived "bands" sucked serious ass and gave music a black eye IMO.

I just have to say "Wow " to the inclusion of so many great bands in this thread.
