I agree with everyone who said: OPTIMUM NUTRITION.

I HAVE TO take this stuff, having gone through (thankfully) gastric bypass in Spetember.

I learned aout this from AnAndTech (whom else !!! - YES!) and ordered it from AllSoortsNutrition as suggested by Comprotech. A GREAT place to deal with, and I feel after shipping and all is included, the OWEST prices on the web.

I use the CHOCOLATE. Mix it with a scoop of Kroger No Sugar - Low Fat Cocoa.
6 OZ of Skim Milk and 1-3/4 cups of crushed ice.

Tastes good and makes a nice chocoalte-like shake

My recipe has LESS than 7 grams of sugar total (the Optimum Nutrition only has 1 gram of sugar per serving !) and nets out:

MORE THAN 30 Grams of PROTEIN per serving !

Another GREAT deal Many Thanks to AnAndTech Forums.

Thanks to y'all and a most Blessed Super Bowl weekend to all.

Go NASCAR !

3 5lb EAS simple proteins for $62.34 shipped

or

2 5lb Designer Whey Protein for $55 shipped

To get back on topic, can someone please sum it all up and recommend one? I've read both pages and the opinions seemed to be mixed. Can someone, who knows what they're talking about when it comes to fitness (not pricing), tell me which is the better one to get? I purchased the Ballys Whey Protein (strawberry) and doesn't seem to do much for me.

eh, my 2 cents

Optimum Nutrition Vanilla tastes like crap compared to chocolate. Do not buy regular vanilla if you care about tastes. Also, optimum is very cheap and is highly rated by most. I think its the best value.

Designer Whey tastes very good and is also highly rated, but is more expensive.

I agree, the Optimum Nutrition Vanilla has a very strange (nasty) aftertaste. If you're mixing it with milk or some simple carbs it's not as bad, but overall the chocolate and strawberry flavors taste better to me.

Thanks. I use to go there every now and then , but the old format was horrible. It was a message board with a directory tree format, but it looks much better now.

Actually, because of school and work I haven't really worked out for about 6 months. But I'm getting back on my routine which is 2 days of heavy lifting a week. And yes, I can drink a gallon of milk and maybe a half dozen eggs in one sitting, although these days I tend to stretch that gallon out over the day with dried milk. My basic diet consist of milk, eggs, oatmeal, bananas, red meat, chicken and tuna, breads and what not. Of course, I eat the occasional junk food, but this is just what I'm used to.

What I don't understand is people that go on the Atkins diet and drop carb intake down to about 20 grams a day for 2 weeks.:Q It's called ketosis and if you're not careful, it could be quite bad for your health. I plan to shed some weight and cut my carbs, but that is way too drastic and I can't believe it's becoming a mainstream diet.
While I certainly don't think Atkins is healthy and would never try it (I am not a doctor however) I dno't think you will go into ketosis while still taking in around 20grams/day, but yes your brain cells do need glucose to convert to ATP, it cannot use fats, or break down proteins...

Ok I guess I'm going with Optimum then.

That designer whey protein deal seems too good to be true. It usually sells for twice the price. I mean, the cheapest I've seen is a little under 20 bucks for 2 pounds. Here, its 55 bucks for 10 pounds. I would go with designer if this deal is for real.

I believe the Designer Protein 2 lb canister is a different form of whey protein than the one in fhe 5 lb canister. Isolate vs Concentrate IIRC, thus the higher price.

And guys, remember the body can only digest around 30grams of protein each meal. So like some of you are already doing, spread your protein intake out throughout the day

On a related topic, does anyone know where to purchase one of these in slightly smaller quantities so as to spend less then $50? I don't feel right about shelling out more then $50 for a "taste test."

I've been using Optimum Nutrition 100% Whey Protein (not sure if it is that different from the "Natural" stuff).

I used to eat tuna sandwiches and chicken breasts and switched to protein because it was cheaper and cut my fat intake. I don't know much about the other brands, I've tried some but they just didn't taste that great and the price of the Optimum Nutrition stuff is usually reasonable.

Just a few things I noticed. This stuff lumps up so I'd suggest using a blender. Also, I find blending it with some fruit (and milk of course) might be a good way to break the monotony of drinking the same thing over and over again.
Also, if you just want a quick try of different brands, try going to your local GNC (no, I'm not affiliated with them in any way shape or form. In fact, I'd say after you tried what you wanted, buy online cuz it is almost always cheaper) or other local "health food" store. I don't know about the rest of the GNC stores but I went to the one in Berkeley on Shattuck when I first started using protein and the guy there was helpful and friendly. I remember that GNC had smaller portions of different proteins. Of course YMMV.
For those buying the 10lb bags, just know that it really is a bag. I found it annoying to close and store so I'd suggest first buying two of the 5lb bottles and then after you have used those up, don't throw away the bottles, keep them and split the 10lb bag between the two.
And, for the lactose intolerant such as myself, Optimum's has not given me any trouble. Just make sure you buy lactose free milk. And, unless you have too much money, I found the "generic" brands (many times marked with the store name like Safeway brand) work just fine.

Hope this helps.

Can you name a specific brand from GNC that works? Not necessrily works because the product claims to be works as in you or your friend can attest to it.

NO..i have both sitting here...they the same...
Yes that 2x 5lb for $55 is a great deal especially with free s/h. I got in on that. If u haven't tried Designer and want some
variety...u can't go wrong at that price. Just as i believe in workout variety, i also believe in suppl variety so Designer, Prolabs,
EAS, OpNutr..use 'em all

Creapure Monohydrate has worked well for me. I've put on about 8 lbs since I started last month. I got 1000g for about $25 shipped and I still have about 100g left. Good stuff!

Forget the Andro. Use protein and creatine, I recommend EAS simply protein or Designer protein and AST's HSC (Hyper Saturation Creatine). As far as a workout. Nothing, and I challenge anyone to prove me wrong, is better than

AST's Max-OT
