<< ......I think legally they are covered >>

as legally as buy.com is covered. Local and State laws override those disclaimers

Everyone was griping about Bestbuy but Ive received DVD box sets that they priced insanely low by mistake before . I figured they would do something for the fluke .

Their cost per card is $99. They could have given everyone the $129 price and still made a profit. They are just throwing us a bone. Let's wait and see what else happens.

<< I got it too but this is neither HOT nor a DEAL.

This thread doesn't belong here.

In any case, please tell me you people aren't gonna give in on this - at least wait til the end of the month to see how this pans out.

At BEST this should be a consolation prize.

Be strong on this and show BB that it's not ok to lie/deceive/bait & switch/whatever you want to call it.

My 2 cents.

Well since people are formulating how to use thier 30 dollar to gain the best amount of items for the $30 then Id say it is a Deal
There have been several people state deals so far . I guess you would be happy if 60 threads popped up saying "Get 2 DVD's for 8 dollars " for you to open and read "Use your bestbuy 30 dollar screw-up GC and get the 2 DVD's for 8 bucks shipped!!"

If you believe that I want some of what you are smoking
Id say it's much higher than that . At best the price would be $200.00 if they mark-up 100% .
Obviously they stood to lose more than 30 a card at the stated price or they would not have offered 30 dollars .

Garet, they do not get the cards at 99.99, my wife works there, employee discount on most nvidia products is slim, usually i can order @ newegg cheaper, now if you are talking car audio, accessories on video games, you are more in the area of 25-40% off in some cases..99.99 is a joke, the 128 mb of ddr ram retails a 40.00 from crucial..

BB can afford it. they got lots of money in the bank, and they have been expanding and buying up stores left and right..in light of K-mart going bankrupt, and a recession.

Online retailers are now forced to pay the "Anand Tax"

Dudes, if you jumped on this, and got a $30 coupon, more power to you.

But if you whine about "just" getting $30 present for exploiting an error, then you have a few life lessons to learn.

Hey,

I'm just relaying info from the hardocp forums. A couple of members visited several bestbuy stores today - at one store they convinced a clerk to print out their cost for the card - they have it and are going to post it - we shall see.

Garetjax

p.s. nice sig - nice to know you respect kyle and the forum so much since thats where the $99 came from.

HEY MCgoldMember: ever work in retail (who hasn't) but anywhere as big or with the buying power of a BB? Probably not. It's not unbelieveable for BB to only be Paying $99/card. Just cuz you are a golden member doesn't mean you know any more than anyone else.

And to ALL of you jealous/hypocritical nay sayers, really, why do you even bother? This has nothing to do with you.

My 2 cents.

By selling each card, I am sure BestBuy must make more than $30 profit, or they won't give us $30 coupon. Make sense huh?!

Anyway, I am happy with what they offer as an apology. What else do you expect by spending 2 minutes to place an order with a price error? Anyone who expects BB will fulfill the orders does not use their left brain to think.

I agree don't use the Coupons they sent out, WAIT at least until the end of the week or the day before the coupon expires

I looked around and all their stuff is so overpriced that 30 off something would not even bring it down to what I can get it from NewEgg.com. So this is more of a joke. Even their CD's cost more than I can get them at Kmart or CDnow.com

Thank you everybody. I am glad to see some people think BB should live up and be an adult about this. But I agree, don't use the coupon.
Worse case wait until the last day you can use it to see how many other media places pick up on this. Heck they might be sending a e-mail right now telling use "we goofed up, we only meant to send you a $3 dollar off coupon, its a system error, yea thats the ticket, a systems error, your coupon is now worthless"

No more lies BB, DO THE RIGHT THING!!!!!!!!!!!! and it looks like a admission of Guilt to me

i'm weak willed, so i folded and ordered a $30 gift card...i'll probably regret it when, at the end of the month, they give everyone who didn't use their GC the card for $130 (yeah, right ) but who knows.

i am just saying if BB gets them for $99 then that would mean nvidia must produce the chips at much cheaper than that say $50 and they sell them for visiontek for $60 so visiontek makes cards for that + $10 and sell to BB for $100

do you think nvidia or visiontek would let best buy have $250 of profit while they get $10 and visiontek gets $20

i mean do you even know how much 128 MB of 3.3 ns DDR costs let alone the cost of th GPU

all im saying is that it costs a lot more than $100 to produce these cards

Read this at Voodoo Extreme :

GeForce4 Fiasco... 10:30 AM - James "Prophet" Fudge - Hardware: nVidia - (71)
This is kind of old news, but there's some interesting numbers in it that deserve a mention. The Register also has a bit on Best Buy's $129 GeForce4 sale that turned into a $399 mistake for the poor folks that preordered it.. According to the report, a total of 1400 people pre-ordered the high-end GeForce4 card only to be told days later by Best Buy that it was all a big mistake. Hell, even the monkies over at GamingNoise said they got the shaft on this deal. Being a big company, what is Best Buy doing to make things right? Umm... Well they aren't honoring the original price, that's for sure.

I dont believe that 1400 number, Id bet it was much larger. I got the 30$ coupon but I think I'll hang onto it a while and see what happens.

And wassup:

<< 'm weak willed, so i folded and ordered a $30 gift card...i'll probably regret it when, at the end of the month, they give everyone who didn't use their GC the card for $130 (yeah, right ) but who knows >>

On the bottom of the email BB sent with the coupon it says:

<< (Coupon can only be used one time and must be redeemed by 11:59 p.m. CST Coupon cannot be redeemed for gift card purchases. Redeemable
online only. Coupon cannot be replaced if lost or stolen. Not redeemable
for cash. Valid major credit card required for online purchases. Not valid
as payment on the Best Buy credit card.)

You're bending over for corporate retail. Does it feel good? Am I missing something?

This is why BB and others will continue to/ and get away with not taking responsibility for their actions.

It's $30 you never had in the first place, have some morals, scruples & or principles and don't use it until this has played out.

Maybe we're wrong about the cost, entirely possible, but while it is hearsay @ this point, it's on pretty good authority. Proof to be posted on Hardocp later tonight when the forums come back up.

To all those who say that those who ordered this will "NEVER" get it, I say - Remember the Bluelight Nomad error back in April or the JVX QX3 error from CameraWorld (a while ago). Here's one story

Back in April Bluelight offered the CreativeLabs Nomad for $27. Not $270 but $27. This unit is a $300 item. I was one of the people that ordered this item. Well let me tell you, after it was cancelled, I wrote three e-mails and two phone calls over a one month time frame. While on the second phone call, the CS rep released the order and shipped the Nomad to me for $28. So that's a $300 item for $27. They stood by their mistake, BB can and SHOULD do the same.

Moral of the story - Don't give up!

It was my understanding that this can not be used to buy a gift card. That is must be used for an online order before the expiration...

Guess I'll wait until the end and see if anything else is offered...

I nothing else is offered, what can I say, I got something for nothing, that is a good deal... And then I'll buy some more CD-R's or DVD's or something....
