apple only designs the looks on these. The screen is probably made by AU Optronics. I would wait until samsung or viewsonic come out with that size screen. It'll be much cheaper.

You can use one DVI cable if you want.

That video card is for the MAC, not the PC and it just states that the video card can support two monitors.

You never need two DVI cables.

Also DVI is far superior to the standard Analog connector for image quality. It has been proven by reviews time and time again.

Also note that there are other displays out there that run with similar or higher resolution on a single connector such as the Dell 20" LCD that does 1600X1200.

This display is only 1680X1050 (20" version). There is nothing amazing about the resolution on these screens as it is standard for this size of this display.

Granted these Apple displays look freaking amazing.

I'm still waiting for someone to review it using DVDs and games.

Can find no review anywhere yet on these, only the older displays.

2 dvi cables are required for the 30in. Also I don't think you could even send that much res over one cable if you wanted to. its got double the pixils of 1600x1200

Aelius, I wouldn't hold your breath on those DVD and Games reviews. People with Macs don't (can't) play games on them. And that's not the market for them anyways, Apple is pushing these as developer products. Plus Apple doesn't hand out samples to reviewers.

So max 1600x1200 DVI was card limitation and not DVI interface limit?

What game supports that resolution? The max I've seen for any game is 2048x1536. Even the 6800 Ultra would choke if you tried to game at 2560x1600. DVD movie would be tiny on that screen and wouldn't look good if you had to stretch to fit the whole screen. But it would be killer screen for people who need screen space. It would be very useful for stock traders.

You missunderstand.

You "need" a massive video card to be able to run a display with that high a resolution so you get something above 20FPS.

You cannot hope to run a display like that on a GeForce4 card unless you like watching a slideshow.

The higher the resolution you run an application at the more powerful the video card must be to support it.

Kind of basic.

With LCDs you must run them at native resolution (max resolution) to get proper picture quality, otherwise it starts to degrade fast at lower resolutions.

It even states that the video card designed for this display can support two 30" displays and it only has two DVI connectors.

Hence; 1 30" display = 1 DVI connector, 2 30" displays = 2 DVI connectors

I hope I didn't miss anything.

Aelius, I don't think you understand. Even the most powerful recent cards like X800XT and 6800 Ultra maxes out at 1600x1200 when using DVI on PC. We know these cards are more powerful than that cause it will do 2048x1536 on analog CRT. So I was just wondering how they were getting around that 1600x1200 limit on DVI interface. 1600x1200 is limitation of DVI interface.

Oh it looks like they are getting around this by using dual link digital signal. So Falloutboy was correct and they are using 2 cables to drive that high res. That 6800 Ultra DDL is supposed to be the first card that supports this capability.

It has only two DVI connectors and can support two 30" displays. That info comes directly from their site.

Look at the video card. It does not have 4 DVI connectors. It has 2.

Apple really needs to make PC's. thier industrial design team puts everyone to shame, every product on thier whole site is beautiful.. I bet with two years they could be as big as Dell.

Looking at the pricing of these monitors, it looks like they are doing a good job of trying to break into the PC market.

It will be interesting to see if they are able to do that. I personally hope they can.

Formac was the first, and now Apple.

Personally I prefer Apple hardware because usually they make really high quality stuff.

I will be watching for reviews of this monitor like a hawk.

Just like a DVD movie stretched to fit a 1920x1080i HDTV doesn't look good?

You can achieve an even better picture with a PC using post processing and upscaling.
