All these no name televisions from costco are not hot. Look at one next to a sony, panasonic, samsung etc.. and
it soon becomes obvious that you get what you pay for.

your clueless.

My Westinghouse puts Sony and Panasonic to shame.

for some reason that sounds pretty humorous

..Sceptre is an OEM manufacture for many "institutional brands" including computer monitors. So your WestingBrand may be a Sceptre.

I believe Westinghouse uses the Sharp Aquos panel.

then why Westinghouse doesn't look any close to Aquos in BestBuy if it uses the same panel?
Aquos looks far sharper then anything else I see in BestBuy for LCD 30 to 45"

Panel may be as good but doesn't mean the signal processing is.

A year ago I helped my parents buy a 26" one - we looked at the Sony, Panasonic, Sharp, Maxent, and a few others all next to each other and all agreed, the Sharp looked the best (for like $1000), followed by the Maxent (for like $500), which looked better than the rest, which were somewhere close to the Sharp price...
They like the Maxent very much. Sure, not *quite* as good as the Sharp, but for the price, excellent.

There's a problem with in store side by side comparisons though. First is the environment lighting, if you're observing the sets in an area that's not lit like your home (or its intended location) you're likely to buy an overly bright or overy dim model which may not be best for your situation.
The other issue is calibration. You're not going to find calibrated displays at Costco, CC or BB. Its possible that the expensive model can look far worse than the cheap model simply because some kid up'd the saturation levels before you got there.

QFT. You can't really trust side-by-side comparisons in store because they're often not calibrated correctly.

I usually goto AVS forum and look at what people who own the TV have their settings at, then adjust to those settings in the store.

1280 x 768 = HD?

*edit* Im getting sick of companies throwing "HDTV" on monitors and not giving TRUE HD quality.

If these things would do a higher res at least 1680x1050 or so I'd already have one unfortunately 12xx x 7xx isn't going to cut it for me .
