GQUnknown: I know what you mean. I hit those same stores the other day. No consoles at all and they laughed at me when I asked if they were going to get more before Christmas. I ended up just picking up a DVD. Oh and I hate their prices for anime. Almost all of it is MSRP.

Actually, NYC's megastore (at least the Union Square one) just got restocked today. They got a few new PS2s. And from what I heard, they don't lose money. It seems that AMEX is paying them back for the discount, which is why they deduct the 30% discount AFTER adding taxes.

I got in on this deal the day it all started (or the morning after). Got a little tip for those in the SF area, go to the store at opening time if you know they have some in stock and talk to the manager about the electronics and ask him *nicely* (as nicely as possible) to buy a few more than the one per person. It worked for me and a friend.

Might not work now that too many people are getting in on it.

I was talking to the cashier and they (Virgin) love the promotion. Amex is paying for it so it costs Virgin nothing. At the same time, it's increasing their sales. If they could, they would love to sell as many consoles as people wanted.

Damn it, I don't live in NYC so I doubt I would have gotten an Xbox but they did get some Tuesday, doesn't anyone over ever pick up the phone. The day they don't pick is the day they got a new shipment. Anyone who purchased one at the Union Square or Times Square, what is included in the bundle. Also it's a promotion from AMEX, so how could they be losing money? Only person losing money is AMEX and they set a limit on how much you can spend.

Well, the NYC Union Square Virgin store got a PS2 shipment in yesterday. In a rash move, I bought one. I didn't really even want a PS2, but I bought one anyway. Now, I'm not so sure I'll even keep it. After looking at the other auctions, it appears that eGaying it won't net me quite the profit I imagined...

Found both the PS2 GT pack and Gamecube bundle in New Orleans (on vacations no less) Worked like a charm!! Bundle for GameCube has Star Wars, Luigi Mansion, and Madden 2002. Not bad at all.

laxplayer39: Isn't there a limit of one console per person? I thought that was one of the stipulations.

Anyway, I wish I could help you. I applied online for an AMEX Blue Card last night and after 3 minutes of processing, it said "the system cannot be reached. Sorry for the inconvenience. We will contact you by mail in a few weeks."

Blech...

If I end up getting one and the deal's still on, I'll keep you in mind since I am in your area.

I just got home from the costa mesa store, they said they got 100 PS2's today, and over half have been sold, no limit on how many one person can buy, I got two, one for me and one as a gift for christmas, wow great deal, they allso had the sopranos second season dvd sets in stock (*dvd $60 with tax). No more PS2 controlers or mem card or XBOX(more of these is expected, no idea when) or GameCube.

GC bundles are $399? thanks for mentioning that, now I don't feel too bad that I can't find em in stock...that's just way too much wasted money for my blood, and egaying all the extra stuff will probably be a hassle

Looks like the PS2s last for a day or less. I went to the Hollywood store last night and the Burbank store on Wednesday and there weren't any left at all. Guess I have to check the thread for updates more often, I want mine.

We went to the Block at Orange store last night for PS2 accessories...they didn't have much of anything out on the display, so we asked someone if there was anything else. He directed us to the front counter of the store, all the way to the left of the checkout stands. Behind the counter was almost everything we were looking for - component video cables, optical audio cables, memory card, etc. The only thing we wanted that they didn't have was a Sony-brand controller. They were really nice to at us at the store, too...since we had to wait around a while for someone to get the stuff down for us, they didn't make us wait in line to checkout, they just grabbed the stuff and took us over to an empty register. Got another coupon book, too. I don't usually shop at Virgin stores because most of their prices are MSRP, but if I can use these coupons in conjunction with sale prices, I might actually be buying a bunch of DVDs from them between christmas and March.

Thanks again Anandtech Hot Deals...I got an email from Amex about the deal, but I could never have maximized it this way without you!

Just got my PS2 at the Hollywood store on Sunset. They had 20-25 PS2 systems on the floor in front of the upstairs cashier as of 9:00 this evening and they also just got in Pikmin, Extreme-G 3 and Super Smash Brothers Melee for the GameCube today!

Damn Virgin, the Orlando store won't sell the GameCube unless you also buy a GameBoy Advanced and WaveRace. Totally sucks.
