760 no doubt. It has a better cooler, it's faster and quieter. Also less power hungry, I believe.

Never mind that I own one of those and love it to bits

Since you said about 300$,I suppose you live in the US.In that case, maybe the 760 is the way to go.If you find some non-inflated prices,I don't think there's anything at 300$ to beat a 280x.It's basically a 7970,so it's really no slouch.Just not worth what it's being sold for right now in the US.If you wait, however, and prices come down as the mining craze dies down,I couldn't suggest something else to you.

spend a little extra and get a gtx 770, for the first time Nvidia actually has better price/performance, and by a pretty significant margin...
I still kick myself for not getting a 290 at launch price though

I only buy from newegg because I have to charge it to my card, I have $300 left on it (I hope) because I went a little ape shit bananas on my Intel build.

I have been thinking the 760 but I love my 7950 to pieces but can't afford another one of those and I don't know if anything at $300 range will come close to it. I bought my 7950 at $300 and it now goes for $450 -_-. I took the 7950 out of my AMD to put into my Intel build so now I need a new card.

Mining craze?

If I was going to try and spend extra I would have to try and get a preferred account from TigerDirect, which could always be a choice.

Save up 20-40 bucks more and get a GTX 770, They can be had for under $350 shipped.. Don't settle for the 760.

I can try and get a preferred account at TigerDirect putting the budget at $350 or the budget stays under $300 because I'm not wanting until June for my computer back.

Craze is dying down.

Used hd 7970's are average $300-350 now, maybe you could score one on eBay or the forums if you aren't tied to Newegg.

I picked up a MSI OC GTX 670 2GB last week for $200.

Mining is basically getting a high end AMD card and use it to mine electronic coins, you can then sell the coins for cash, if you know what you're doing you can get the amount you paid for your card in 2-4 months if you run it 24/7.

That made AMD GPU prices skyrocket due to shortages.

If I try and get a preferred at TigerDirect what can I get for less then $350? I don't wanna be broke on a card. I would something as decent as a 7950.

$250 for a 270X.... Newegg really managed to outdo themselves once again with the hyper-inflated radeon prices!

I'd definitely invest the extra bucks in a 770 or wait for another deal on the 760 and get it (2GB version) for ~$200.

760 is in between a 7950 and a 7970 performance wise. A 270x does not fall in the same category as the 760 even though the price is very similar.

Thinking of putting this in the intel build and putting my 7950 back in my amd build...it's that for overclocked builds only though? I don't do that.

Thinking just a 760, what can I expect for FPS on Assassins Creed IV?

Is it worth $80 more to go with the 770? I will be playing Assassins Creed IV and Payday 2.

I don't really play bioshock infinite or crysis 3 but I do own then so I randomly play them sometimes.

I am going with the 760. It's $80 less and it looks like it will play games just fine although I don't know how it compares to my 7950.

Without question it is. a GTX 770 is a refined and fully mature GTX 680. Its a smoking video card.

GTX 760 and 7950 are comparable in performance. GTX 760 is slightly faster than the 7950 and slightly slower than the 7970. By slightly I mean 5-10% which is unnoticeable.
