300 - is it worth seeing?

Yeah, you really got read the articles on this movie.
They deliberately picked costumes and props that were not at all in period just because they looked "cooler".
ALL of the acting was filmed in front of blue and green screen. The only regular filming done was for a couple of background shots that were later digitally inserted into the actor shots.

Yeah, it's really surprising when you find out how much Hollywood does that. I was watching a couple of things on the Thing HD-DVD, and there were a few shots where it looked like they were in the arctic, but it was actually in the backlot of the Universal studio :Q I knew the spaceship was a matte painting, but they were actually shot on a piece of cloth looking at an open meadow of grass. Some stuntmen DID scale down the ice... but in a (cut) scene where they show them crawling back over the edge, that was also back in the studio. Freaky.

Very homo-erotic action movie. Not that there's anything wrong with that, lol.

It's a very fictional tale loosely based on actual history. I'm pretty sure they didn't have Matrix-like battles and CGI effects back in 480AD but it's still kinda cool if you aren't intimidated by sweaty half-naked muscular dudes in sandals wielding spears.

I liked it. Guys beating the crap out of each other with swords and spears. What more could anyone (except the womenfolk) ask? It's based on the Frank Miller graphic novel.

Do keep in mind its based off the graphic novel "300" by Frank Miller, and not supposed to be a documentary. It is extremely, extremely faithful to the comic, and people trying to match the movie to history are missing the intent.

The Spartan hoplites were famous for their heavy bronze armor and shields.

The movie was fun, but does a poor job of depicting actual history. The main idea is pretty accurate though, and it is a good tale. I would recommend it to people under 30 (or with that mentality).

Not a deep movie, ratio of plot to action is probably 1:9. It's a fun one though if you like lots of hacking and slashing, and the movie does it very well. Hit the imax if there's one in your area.

I saw it.. Was bored out of my mind. So much macho b.s. with a post-modern take on sexism and homophobia, representing the evil persians as girly men. Beautifully shot.. er.. rendered.. but empty. Seriously, mystery science theater 3000 worthy script directed well.

And the politics were all screwy too, let's not even talk about the history. I don't go to see movies to be educated, I go to be entertained. But it was really hard being entertained with all of the none-sensical plotting and chest pumping.

I must say that action movies are my favorite genre - I just like intelligent action movies. YES, they exist...
