I couldn't find a thread on this movie.

I wouldn't say this is the worst film I've ever seen, but I didn't like it. I enjoyed the first 300, which while mindlessly bloody had a interesting visual (and I'm not just talking about the manmeat). This didn't have that same feeling. It also completely killed the first movie in both that this one messed with how it ended and also deflated the Spartans as everyone in Greece is a bad ass when handed a spear.

One question that confused me a bit, hence the thread..

The narration of it seemed really off in time. It seemed (I could be wrong) that our Spartan Queen was telling this tale to her crew on the way to the final battle. As it progresses she's still telling this tale about the battle she's on her way to. I'm not sure if she has great eyesight that she can narrate something miles away or did I miss something. One thing I do know I'm overthinking a bad movie.

with all the american obssession with sparta do you realize that the athenians were way more powerful?

and rome was much more glorious and powerful than sparta?

not sure what the wolf scene had to do with 300. getting rid of the support of the twins before rome was founded? although apparantly it is descended from proto ayran religion so that would include greek religion also

I don't disagree with the history, but 300 had very little to do with history. In that version Spartans were without match as warriors. In the squeal that wasn't the case.

I watched this Friday when I was on a date... It was certainly more wordsy than the previous film and I actually think it suffered for it a little bit and won't be rated highly by the original films target demographic. I don't know, maybe I didn't enjoy it because I was already 5 or 6 pints of cider down.
The action scenes and tits as always were great.

Haven't seen it yet but bro said it wasn't as good as the first. Apparently they over used the slow mo effect. (Even slow moe'd the boat scene. lol)

Sparta defeats Athens in the Peloponnesian War. In terms of culture Athens was superior and its legacy lives on today.

that was later years. read up before that. athens ruled much of the aegean and had a very powerful military. athena is the goddess of war. they valued strategy and war skills over brute survivorship. also read about the way spartans treated some nearby tribes the were subserviant to them.

rome had one of the strongest militaries of the classical age. not sure if athens could even stand next to them

I'm a little confused...you seem to be discussing history, but this thread is about a movie which is nothing but fantasy.

so you're looking for gay porn in a hollywood movie?

There's some nice boobage in this but yes generally it's half naked men for the whole thing.

Movie was okay. Lots of obvious CGI...

Tits were all great though, loved that.

Well considering his username...

Damn you I was going to point out his username.

That's the problem with these films. Its all about the tits. Man tits, woman tits. Prudes.

So, gayer (est?) film, 300 or Top Gun?

Top Gun, because Tom Cruise is gay.

Its a tough decision, because Top Gun condenses it, largely into one scene (let's get oiled up and play volleyball!) which is just off the charts, but then 300 is like "fuck it we're gonna get oiled up, rock cloth diapers, and do super slow mo so you can't deny seeing all the homoerotic and phalic imagery for 2 hours".

Maybe the better question is, which movie did more to belittle our "enemies"? I think if Tom Cruise had been Robin in Batman Forever, it'd be a no brainer, but then 300 is basically just a big play on beloved patriot.

I'd like to submit Rocky III for consideration. It is at least as gay as Top Gun, when you examine the Rocky/Apollo training sequence.

Which makes me ask: were the 80s the gayest decade?

:hmm:

I liked the first 300 movie but Rise of an Empire just sucked...me and my date left after watching an hour of it. First movie I haven't finished at a movie theater...and I usually love action movies. It was either corny action/gore scenes or boring dialogue.
