I'd like to unlock my multiplier of my Athlon XP 3000+ 333fsb Barton core. Here are the markings on the chip:

AMD Athlon
AXDA3000DKV4D T850863C4D470
KQYHA 0412MPMW

It's a week 12 of 2004 chip. I've tried the old wire loop method and it did not work. It's the lower multipliers I wish to utilize.

Here are my specs:

AthyXP 3000+ 333fsb
Abit NF7-S ver 2
1x512 Mushkin PC3500 Lvl II Black
Lian Li aluminum windowed case
Allied 450W PS
Sapphire Radeon 9800 Pro 128MB
Lite On CDRW/DVD combo
WD400BB 7200 rpm 40GB IDE drive
flippy
other misc stuff...

I'm not really interested in attaining an overclock per se. Just wish to toggle muliple and fsb. Can someone plz give insight in unlocking this chip? Anyone had any luck?

you can't unlock the newer bartons.... they are factory hard-locked just like Intel. In order to do shizzle like what you want you either need an older Barton, or a Mobile barton.... The RAM, and Board appear to be good choices for OC'ing though... are you running a retail AMD heatsink?

Multi and FSB should be activated by default on your board:
Go into BIOS
SoftMenu
RAM/FSB/something like that...
from whatever it is -> 215/220 you should be able to run that no problem... with the loked multi you shoudl outpace a 3200+ easily.. I am not sure however what the multi is at on te 3000+
F10
y

and you are done... go to windows and run Prime95 for about 12 hours...

What Stu says.

They are uber-locked.

IIRC, there was a trick to turn it into a mobile, but it can't be done with that mobo (or any nForce mobo).

Get a mobile.

Yes, stock hsf. The multiplier is 13.0; 13x166=2167

*sigh*

I'll just get a normal 3200+ then and pawn this one off to a relative.

Or like others have said get a 2600+ mobile most hit around 2.5ghz on air. And are unlocked I believe

you can unlock them, i forgot what it was called, but for about $15 you can get a kind of a shim that fits on some of the pins that unlocks the multiplyer. Some webside did a test on it like HardOCP or Tweektown or something. I think it was called a speed stick.

I dont know how ull find them, but the tool to unlock them is out there...

Are you sure it was a post week 39 Barton? I know there used to be a way to do it when they were soft-locked but I thought the Hard-locked ones were bulletproof against that kind of thing...

Admittedly though he should simply raise the FSB... with a 13 multi it should go pretty high... bump it one or two a day and monitor the temps accordingly... if te temps don't get too extreme (at most 55C load.... not sure how realistic that is though) and he loses stability he should bump the VCore, check the temps and keeping going that way until he is comfortable.... he can save the most money that way by not buying a new proc and HSF....

Don't think so. If you read the fine print at the bottom of their site, it warns about the uber-locked post week 39 cpu's.

I'll keep the 3000+ to put in the K7VME I already had it in, along with an old reliable Geforce 4 ti 4600 which I'll soon adopt as my legal son...Anyway, I've seen a 3200+ recently for as little as $125. It's kinda silly for me to build yet another pc (I've got 4 right now, but only two are good gaming rigs), but what the hey. It's good for the economy.
