3007WFP question

I'm thinking of getting the Dell 3007WFP. I would use it for both gaming (very old games to very new), as well as Graphic Design and 3D Production. I already read Anandtech's article on LCD newbie-ness, but it didn't cover specific things I wanted to know. This will be my first LCD monitor, so I thought I'd ask people here a couple questions.

My biggest question is this: I believe LCD's have an issue with some imagery when displaying it outside of it's native resolution. This things' native res is 2560x1600. I have a really high-powered system, but obviously for gaming some of the newer titles won't run smoothly at this res, so I was wondering if it were possible to do things like drop the resolution by exactly half, so at I would get a more managable res of 1280x800. Is this possible, or is there a catch for changing LCD resolutions? I assumed this would be doable simply because it's exactly 1/2 the res, so pixels would be exactly doubled resulting in a clean, lower res image. Am I wrong?

Also, since it's a 16:9 display ratio, can I just opt to run games at a regular 4:3 and have them displayed properly (with monitor space outside of this just having black bars on either side or something?) Black bars on the side don't bug me, as long as it's doable.

My last question is about component/Svideo input. The 3007WFP has inputs for these, so I was even thinking of consolodating all my entertainment and using it to display my PS1/2, XBox, SNES, etc. Lots of systems. Even play DVDs from a console or player, instead of my PC. How does this work? Can you effectively see analogue signals on an LCD like this, or is the resolution completely crunched and ugly?

Has anyone bought this monitor and used it for similar activities that I describe with pleasant results? What games have you played on it and how did you manage the res/display ratio? Anyone emulate old DOS games? How do they look? I guess the res issue would tie in with my first question.
I am pretty certain my development and graphic applications will work just fine on this application. The biggest issue was games/media compatibility.

Thank you anyone who has the time and patience to answer!

3007 only has one input dvi with hdcp.

i just received my 2405 3 days ago and it was perfect. and its friggin huge. i upgraded from a 19" flatscreen CRT to the 2405, which was btw my first LCD.

i think u should really think about whether u wanna go 30" widescreen. i know it would be way way to big for me.

my x1900xtx barely pushes my dell 30 when running FPS games at native res. WoW runs on average 30fps. Its all good though since the new cards coming out this year will be able to push my monitor to nice acceptable fps.

I hear that nvidia is set to release a dual gpu card.

Vaccarjm-
So my 7800GTX would probably not fare very well as it is. I just received this card and don't plan to get a new one any time soon.
Have you tried running in a lower res at all? Or are those the framerates you get from doing so?

rfadream-
I was considering this as well. That would also be a nice display to have, and it's 4:3 as well, right? I don't care much for widescreen anyhow. I thought I'd at least be able to push the res of a 2405 on a 3007 if I downresed and whatnot. I thought it would be at least comparable.
If I got a 2405 I'd still probably go with dual monitors, so hopefully that's possible (I don't think it is with the 3007, but that screen was wide enough to avoid it).

Thanks for the feebdack!
