If everyone is cheatingthough, you better cheat or else your gpa relative to others will be low.
If I cannot earn get my degree honestly, I do not deserve it and do not want it.
Not simply attaining the title of engineer, but to truly becoming a good engineer, at least for pathetic idealistic little brain, is a title that brings to mind notions of prestige, dedication to my fellow man, and above all, integrity.
The name alone means nothing.
The title alone means nothing.
The degree alone means nothing.
If I can't take care of all that is required for me to attain that status without compromising my integrity, I willfully reject it.
I am the only one idiotic enough, stupid enough, completely insane enough to break away from the roots of my family and try to become an engineer.
If I am going to convince them that I am right, and can indeed do it, there is only one way.
My old statics teacher spoke very little English, but even from all the way on the other side of the globe, he brought the only phrase that has stuck with me since the moment he uttered those broken words:
If you WANT to be an engineer, you have to be a GOOD engineer.
He always put it in the context of buildings and bridges whose collapse he witnessed, but alas, the truth behind the statement, even without the cloud of catastrophe over my head, still stands.
