You are correct about price not meaning everything.
That's why many recommend Sharp for a great low cost TV.
For the 10% more in cost than RCA/GE, it is well worth it.
As to consumer reports, you left out one important point.
While they did rate the TV O.K. for features and picture, in the servicing end of the Consumers Reports,
it ranked about 25th out of 28. RCA/GE/Proscan and Zenith are rated the worst by Consumer Reports. I think
it was something like 60% would need fixed within first 2 years??
RCA/GE/Proscan sets are great for me.
They keep me in business, and account for more repairs than all other sets combined.
RCA is hoping you use poor judgement and buy the lower priced set.
Used to be a TV would easily last 10+ years.
If you paid $450 for it, they made $45 a year off of you.
Greed took over. Now that same $450 TV cost $250, but lasts 1 to 2 years. (some RCA/GE's 6 months).
Even if it lasts 4 years, thats more than $60 a year they made off of you. But they hope it only last 1 to 2 years.
They finally got caught with purposefully making defective TV's, and lost a class action lawsuit for $100,000,000.
Thomson get's caught cheating
If that's not enough to discourage what we TV techs think is the worst TV's "ever" made.
