32" Panasonic Tau @ Walmart!!!

Looks like the price for the TAU is tumbling. I notice that one eBay seller has three display models of the CT-32HX42 HDTV for $599 each (BIN).

Can anyone tell me what this is missing, compared to the CT-32HX42? There has to be something to account for the $900 price difference.

Anyone know of any modern design stands that put your av equipment higher than a 2 year old can reach?

I see lots of nice stuff thats all tv on top and no storage above it. He knows enough to leave tv alone.. but he just won't give up on pushing DVD and VHS and surround etc buttons hehe. "for that matter my 6 year old doesn't leave them alone much but at least she can control it"

In case anyone is interested, Wal-Mart also had a 36" Tau (probably not HDTV) for ~$798. Didn't get the model number or any specs.

Now does this 32" HDTV come with HDTV tuner? Or does an external one have to be purchases? cause if so this wouldn't be that hot of a deal would it? Just curious.

This one has no HDTV tuner, like ~99% on the market. You won't need it if you get your HD signal off satellite or cable, since their set-top boxes have to be used.

Yep, I saw both of them last night at my local SuperWallyWorld. The 36" Tau was $778. I wasn't too excited since I bought one earlier this year on a "HOT" deal from CC for $899. Man, either they're a great deal or they're not as great as everyone says. Yes, I own one, but I'm still not sure about the picture quality yet. Maybe I'm just not that picky, but to me it wasn't worth it so far. Also, I had to send it in for repair for about a month already. It had wavy horizontal lines moving vertically (<--- read twice)

Anyways, maybe at $778, it's a pretty hot deal. BTW, I'm in the New Orleans area. Good luck!

Oh yeah, and as someone said, WM is adding to/revamping their electronics section. Lots of panasonic, some home theatre-in-a-box systems, etc...

Like I said...I own the 36" version of this...got it for $500 open-box...and its an excellent set...you still have 3 years before HDTV....even if you get one now, you'll probably going to want a new HDTV by then...so I say go for this...its got a great tube.

I've heard from others that I probably saw a mis-labeling of the TV. Some say that the HDTV version of the Wal-Mart Tau is actually Model No. CT-32HC43, and the correct selling price is $928. According to the Panasonic numbering scheme, the CT-32SC13 should be a non-HDTV set.

The 32" Tau shouldn't be a HDTV. I went to my local Walmart and they had both. One as a HDTV which went for a hair under $1000 and the SC13 which is not HDTV for $597 If you got the HDTV you were heck of lucky. Too bad I really wanted one.

Yeah we got that one in too, forget the exact price but I believe it was in the $300-$400 range. I noticed the 32 inch Tau but didn't really check it out, both models were definitely silver though. I'll take a closer look tomorrow and see if it is HDTV or not.

I picked up a 32" flat screen tonight at Walmart for $388+tax. it's a very good TV for the $$. my model number is CT-32SC13-1G. It's gotta weigh over 150lbs! It was pretty heavy and bulky to lift into my house and onto the shelf. I'm very happy with it over the deal they were offering on the 36" RCA. The RCA was once of the older Xbox ones with the curve face for $400..but it was a display model...had been on for who knows how long.

Augh!!! You spilled the beans.
I was watching these for weeks... the seller was reposting them every week slightly cheaper because they weren't selling, I was hoping to win one for the $549 opening bid, but just today 2 of them went for BIN price so I had to nab the last one. There is still one left for $549 with one bid, but I didn't want to end up getting outbid on that one.
There is still a CT-32HX41 up for grabs ($599 BIN), I actually heard that one was better because it has anamorphic squeeze and the HX42 doesn't, but I was kind of uneasy to buy a set that's been sitting around since 2001.

I actually didn't see any Tau's at my local Wal-mart, what is the model of the HDTV version they're selling?

This must have been a price mistake by a slow CSR. Walmart sells a 32" nonflat panasonic for $388 model CT32E13. They musta labelled em wrong or something

Not that I'm buying into this being digital at all, but if the model numbers are HC and SC could one of them be HDTV and one of them SDTV ?

umm no it isn't... until otherwise proven. This model is marketed as a nonhdtv model. as of yet all I've seen here is speculation and mislabelling.
