If an HDTV doesn't actually have 720P, it will convert to the other HDTV format, which is 1080i. It will probably look perfectly fine. 720P upconverted to 1080i might even look better than native 1080i because it requires less compression so there might be fewer compression artifacts, such as blocky breakup of the picture.Originally posted by: grandeCC

Not all HDTVs can handle 720p, some brands (Mitsubishi) refuse to deal with it at all. 720p to 1080i isn't necessarily an "upconvert" and has nothing to do with "compression". Most HD tuners will output at a fixed resolution (ie:1080i).
