She could generate trouble without knowing the facts first and leave you to attempt to straighten out the mess on your $$.

Thanks for the advice, but I've got it covered. When I said "She's expecting a check" I didn't mean that "I am supposed to send a check."

She's "expecting a check" b/c she got a free and surprise $600 last year and knowing her low IQ, is expecting the same or better this year. She makes Pavlov's Dog look intelligent.

I am 101% legally up to date. I pay my CS on time AND pay a teenie weenie little bit towards my back CS every month. Just enough to keep me legally clean. I know what I'm doing.

Do you have the money garnished from your wages or do you just pay the support yourself? If you have it garnished from your wages, don't forget about postage. The support can just be taken out automatically. But you will eventually have to pay for the postage. My dad didn't know that, and he eventually got a bill for 20 years of unpaid postage. i would contact the court or office and find out about that. stamps are cheap, and even with the 20 years of postage it'n not the end of the world, but its the type of thing that can jump up and bite you in the ass somewhere down the line..

You married the woman, had a child with her...

Who has the low IQ here?

My concern would be that she may not care.

If she is expects a gift (courtesy of you) and does not get it, she could contact a lawyer and start trouble. It becomes a ounce of preventation situation.

I have a son that is still trying to get a 5 year old court ordered garnishment (back support) removed. Ex keeps getting a lawyer involved to screw up the paperwork over the past 2 years. The back support was paid off 4 years ago. no I have to get involved becuase he can not afford the lawyer costs wwith teh garnishment in effect.

You do, since he already addressed that part of the relationship earlier in the thread.
Its almost like some of you don't even bother to read the previous posts in here before
trying to re-start the fight.

MD, I hope you have the opportunity to invest some of that money that you managed to keep
as the difference in your tax returns. If it does well, you might even be able to cover
some of that accumulated interest.

Geekbabe, kudos to you for being able to look past your own situation and for keeping
a heathly sense of perspective. I do hope things turn out better for you, and if you ever
feel the need to brag about pulling over one on the Ex; just remind us of this thread and
I'm sure you'll get just as much enthusiastic supprt that MD was getting.

So MichaelD had the system worked against him, and should he challenge it, it would only be done to him again. Then he's called a bad person because he's just working the system right back in his favor?

Something tells me that if this is money that is being paid off from having been owed 9 years ago, his ex isn't hard up for this money at this point in life. If she has some sort of 9 year old debt she's struggling to pay for, I'll glady apoligize, but if she isn't giving him the opportunity to play his role as dad through anymore than a monthly check, then screw her. Short of being a convicted felon, drug addict or abusive, there aren't many good reasons why a father shouldn't get to spend as much time with his son as his mother does, provided they are putting forth the effort to make this child's life as good as they can.

My respect goes out to those mothers and fathers that have to raise their children by themselves, but not letting the other parent help any way but monetarilly is wrong.
