Just figured out my taxes. I owe a whole thirty two dollars ($32) this year! :beer:

Hooray for me!!! My son's mom will NOT get my refund as she did last year. I originally owed her 6 months of back child support b/c my son was 6 months old before our court date for CS and visitation came up. Though I'd be giving her money (and had the cancelled checks to prove it) the court did not honor that money b/c it was not "court ordered child support." I.E. I got screwed.

So, for the past 9 years, and tax refund I get goes to her until the back debt is payed.

Last year she got $600. I changed my deductions to have less taken out...and I figured it perfectly.

This year I OWE $32 which means she gets NOTHING and can't go party with my money again. Last year she went to Vegas. She'll be waiting for a check...I know her.

She'll get NOTHING this year.

Wouldn't you rather just pay it off? This won't affect the amount you owe. I take it the court didn't order you to pay interest?

Nope. I gladly continue to amass interest at 9%. It's the principle of the matter. I pay a little additional every months towards that back owed amount. I refuse to pay it off out of principle.

I should never have gotten saddled with it or at the least, the amount I had paid her prior to the court date should've been deducted from what I owed. I got hosed.

Some basic calculations on my part show that I'll pay off the back CS when he's about 15. Six years from now. It's the principle of the thing.

It's your business, but this seems like cutting off your nose to spite your face. I'd rather just pay and forget it if it were me. BTW, I totally agree they should never have stuck you with this debt (or at least it should have been reduced by the amount you paid), but I think you're just dragging this out to everyone's detriment.

MichaelD is just celebrating over defeating this woman's abuse of the system. You don't abuse the system, do you? If he were to pay, the money would go to the kid, not take you to Vegas, right?

Our kid ate all year, he had a place to live,clothing, etc, if a check came in now it would be simple
reimbursement of part of those expenses.

I see my son as often as possible, I call him 1x/week, I send him cards for all the major holidays and his birthday. I am a DAD.
