I can't find squat about it on the web. target.com doesn't even show it.

You know any more details -- like flat screen? stereo? s-video?

Seems very hot for a 32"... Although the longer you can wait, the cheaper "standard" tv's will be.

just make sure it has component input plus multiple S-video and Composite input.

i wont expect too much for that price, however..

Im curious what the picture quality was if you saw it on display (or anyone else who's seen this one). Was it soft (verses detailed edges/sharp) the large apex's are known for being soft...

Was this a clearance price or a new markdown chainwide?

Just to note, I really like the PQ of the Orion we have at our beach place.

(Orion manufactures this TV).

Like with any TV it all depends on who sets it up. Some of the more expensive models are set from the factory to be way to sharp and bright. This will look good in the store but will shorten the life of the TV significantly. Not to mention that the colors are not correct.

Take the Apex for example. I bought my daughter a 20" flat screen with the DVD built in for around $170 on a hot deal last year. If I would have listend to all of the crap about how bad they were I would not have gotten it. Took it out of the box and ran my AVIA software and it looks as good as my other TV's. You can not go based on people that think these TV's are crap just because of their name. There are only a handfull of companies that make the actual tubes anyway.

Can you image the # of TV's they are gonna sell if they ever advertise a deal like this and the store runs out of that particular TV? The high 'regular' prices are going to bite them in the rear if rainchecks are issued at the same % off with the substitution policy they have going on.

Consumer Reports is dead wrong this time!!!! (normally they are pretty accurate for TV's, but I'm taking your work here).
Sanyo's have crap tuners that fail if you sneeze wrong. Rank near the bottom.
Also, many ship with poor cold solder joints. Rank near the bottom.
Also, vertical failure rate is higher than most brands. Rank near the bottom.

Many low end TV's are much more reliable than Sanyo, although many are much worse than Sanyo.

The best you can do for low end is Sharp.
Even Toshiba rates below Sharp.
JVC is one of the best brands you can get, and is rated slightly above Sharp.

The above advice is from a tech that has been fixing these for a living for over 15 years.
I've seen them all, in every aspect from new warranty failures, to well out of warranty repairs.
The important thing to know is that many manufacturers want TV's to become like Bic lighters.
Sell it cheap, throw it out when it breaks in a year, then sell them another one cheap.
Good TV's like Sharp, JVC, and even Toshiba, should easily last 10 to 15 years without failure.
The other crap WILL break within 1 to 3 years.

Remember all those great deals on the Apex rear projection a few months back?
It cracks me up to now see many of those that bought one, and that I tried to warn against the purchase,
now complain how many have crapped out after only a few months. They act surprised, and don't understand.
Apex is so bad that we stopped servicing them altogether.
While we can warranty our labor, crap parts from the manufacturer are still crap that won't last, and gives us a bad name.
95% of the time, you get what you pay for.

Look,
I don't doubt that you may have come across some bad Sanyo TVs if you are a repair tech. Consumer Reports repair records have twice in a row put Sanyo at the top for the 32" to 36" TVs. Not only have my mother and I both not had a problem with the TV, but when I recommended that exact same unit to one of my wife's home healthcare clients they bought it a year ago from Walmart for $300 and have not had one thing go wrong either. The picture looks great on all three sets.
Maybe some of the newer flatscreen Sanyos are a problem, but I would bet that anyone buying the specific model from Walmart for $279 will have no trouble with it and have a much better TV than the one mentioned at the top of this thread from Target or any Apex TV.
Besides, Walmart has the best return policy around next to maybe Costco and they are located virtually everywhere.

For beginners TV and Electronics advice:
news:sci.electronics.repair
-----------------------------------------------
I guess that means me.
I checked that forum out, by the way. They don't seem to generally agree with you. They seemed more down on Sony for all that they cost. That seems to go along with Consumer Reports poor repair records for large screen Sony TVs.
Besides, for $297 if it lasts 5 years are you really going to get it repaired. Now a $700 Sony on the other hand........................

A quote from Sci.electronics.repairs....answering a "beginner" inquiring about a Sanyo 27" TV purchase:

"If they quit I look to them as a source for some interesting repairs
or, if not repairable, then as a source for parts and learn something.
Toss the rest out. That ~$300 SANYO TV set? If it lasts 2 years it
had already paid for itself. WALMART sells them by the palletful.
Most of them will have given good service without trouble. "

Looks nice. Thanks. I'll check it out tomorrow.

I have a cheapo 27" Sanyo from Walmart. Spent about $259 or so two years ago. Works great. Not a single complaint.

Didn't know Sansui still made TVs........ They made some nice audio gear in the 70s.
