3200+@2.6 comparable to a fx55

Just running a 3200+winchester @ 2.6 100% stable and am able to pick up a used fx55 and wondering if the fx will stomp on the 2.6 3200+

You'll likely get the FX-55 to 3000 MHz, but seriously, i would just keep what you have, since it's pretty wicked as it is

Even if you got the A64 to 2.6ghz it may not be better then the 2.6ghz of the FX55...Why??? cause the FX55 has 1mb of l2 cache.....NOw if you figure in the 289 or so HTT from a 3000+ and what ram divides you are able tio use it could give you more bandwidth...

however as mentioned the FX55 will have headroom as well and should clock to 2.8ghz no sweat....3.0ghz is in site but gets close to limits of air cooling alone.....


At 2.66ghz I beat the FX55 in every app out there that isn't effected by vid card or is extremely IO dependent....AMD thinks the 512kb mor of l2 cache is worth 5% hence why they give the 4000+ a higher rating over the same 2.4ghz speed of the 3800+...howvere they are wrong and this is not across the board...My 66mhz, higher bandwidth, higher HTT, seem to make up for it and then some....

THis is a hard one! Stay or get the fx55 and hopes for 2.9

Lets just say unless you are getting one heck of a sweet deal I wouldn't bother. The price of the FX is way too high and I can buy abuot 6 winnie 3000+'s...you could maybe only get a few hundred mhz more......

If you have the cash and the need go for it...It is not top multiplier locked so it should be easy to oc and keep ram right at spec....

Intel has been jacking up their L2 Caches but I still don't see it beating the Athlon64s

No specail deals. I do have extra cash so I would not hurt me. I would hope to see or feel a difference but I am not sure if I would. I am leaning to keeping my 3200+
Kinda wanted the fx but for 5% increase(if that is only what it would be)?

That is all it would be if you didn't OC it one lick!!! If you oc it you should get 2.8ghz no sweat....that is 7% by itself...if you can get to 2.9ghz then it will be 12% on top of the 1-5% of the cache.....so all in all it could be 12-17%....A64's seems to scale pretty linear with speed....
