yeah, i got in on the monarch deal a couple months ago for ~ 145 iirc. this is the best pricing i've seen since then.

these are the e6 according to the specs but they have a retail pic so take that fwiw.

I never have understood that reasoning. An OEM cpu will last well beyond the 3 year warranty period, especially a non-OC one.

If you are going to OC, your warranty is void whether it's OEM or retail. I don't know many (any) people that buy A64's and run them stock. Chances are, the cpu is not going to be an issue if it works within the first 24 hours. Personally, I have never had a cpu failure (18 years), be it OC or stock. Also, I never use the retail HSF, so OEM is the way I have been going.

A while back, I bought an OEM Winchester 3500+ from Monarch for $252. The cheapest retail I could find anywhere was $320. No brainer. Monarch is a great place to buy OEM cpu's because they come with a 60 day warranty.

That eWiz price looks great, and according to their policy, AMD OEM cpu's can be returned up to 6 months from the invoice date for repair. Sounds pretty safe to me.

LOL... nobody gets into my baby's case, tweaks her bios and gets her all hot!

Trust me, I played around to see what limits I could push it to. I remember corrupting some data on my hdd and spending way too much time on Abit's website. Having had my "fun" I just was happy to get it back to stable.

I'm currently running a Barton 2400 @ around default clock speeds. I've been thinking of upgrading, mainly cuz my mobo is largely a POS (nforce2 with IGP, and won't do 400FSB dual-channel), so was gonna upgrade mobo too.

I want the best bang for the buck, so would this chip be about that deal, and what motherboard would be recommended? the DFI 939's still one of, if not the best choice?

I just snagged one to go with the ASRock 939DUAL-SATA2, which they also have a good price on. If this MB works as advertised, I will be able to OC the &%$ out of this CPU, still use my x800 AGP card, eventually buy a PCIe video card, and the whole combo is about $200 delivered! Nice.

Very tempting to get one of these 3200+ and Asrock combos... I almost have a reason. Still working on the justification, but perhaps will order sometime this weekend.
