Just to put that in perspective... it this was this time last week, it would be 19K for them and 9K for us... today it's 19K for them and 15K for us... that's a heck of a leap!

We need just a bit more to make the Cows graze on their own s**t.

s**t = spit, of course.

A quote from my favorite movie, The Crow, "FIRE IT UP!, FIRE IT UP!".

Let's TA finish what the DPC started...

Well, I finally got going again, but I'm afraid my dial-up account doesn't have enough bandwidth to keep me in D2OL WUs. Is there any good way to sneakernet in this project?

There is a way to sneakernet but I'm unsure of which files you need to copy. kb9skw knows so might try PM'ing him on this board or D2ol's forum.

My understanding is that the candidate server feeds out the candidates at about the same rate whether your on dailup or broadband. Once you fill up your que it takes just a few minutes to upload/ dload canidates. You might try downloading 100 or so at first and then increase the que size by 50 or 100 everytime you dump until you get a few days worth stored up.

is the client gui only or is there a commandline version available... gui versions run incredibly slow.

is there also an ability to throttle the processor usage because its really hot where i am right now and my p4 is overheating even at 50% load.

No commandline but if you go to properties and under the general tab uncheck launch main window on startup and enable animations. The animations are what slow things down the most.

As for your other question there is nothing in the client that allows you to throttle the CPU usage. Sorry.

Yes you can run commandline. There is a readme file inside the d2ol folder that tell how to do so

There is a command line version but you need to look at the readme file in SengentD2OL\D2OL for how to set it up.

"While the above controllers are defaults, it is now possible for the user
to manually specify a controller on any operating system. This is done by
passing a command line parameter into the D2OL binary when launching the
Agent Node. These parameters are as follows:

'controller:java' - This manually sets the Node's controller to be the
Lightweight Java GUI Controller.

'controller:cli' - This manually sets the Node's controller to be the
Command Line Interface Controller.

'controller:file' - This manually sets the Node's controller to be the
File Based Controller."

Ken_g6, you could try copying SengentD2OL\D2OL\res\resultQueue.dat between machines and see if that helps.
If you want to keep the results attached to the machine that produced them (the one on dialup) you should copy the node.prp file as well. Back up the old one first!

Ok, Andy answered the question about different command options. This is not a Command Line per say as in running in a DOS command box. Rather you are using a command prompt to change options and control the client. The file bases controller gives control of the client via editing of the control.prp file. You can also run in lite java mode if you wish.

Next about sneakernetting. Real simple and I am going to be positng that to the FAQ soon on the D2OL Forums. I suggest to all of you new users to take a few minutes and read it. I spend a lot of time writing it just for this purpose.

Just copy the entire /res folder from one machine to another. With 2,000 candidates it should be around 10MB. When done grab the resultQueue.dat file which should also be almost 10MB for 2,000 results.

Any more questions? I will be happy to answer them on the D2OL forum where all members can read and comment, just not TA.

What do you mean by this? I run about 10 GHz of high speed Athlons at home and dont have a problem with dial-up. Best to go get coffee or something of that nature but not as bad as SETI@home. If you are referring to D2OL being a bandwidth hog then yes it is and I use NetLimiter to keep it down to 1KB per second.

Dohhhh!!!!, (in his best Hommer Simpson vioce). The sad part about this is I actually read the "readme" file and should have remember this. Old age creeping up I guess but I'm glad someone caught it. The sadder part is I have several PC"s running the controller:file option to keep people from messing with the client.

Well I feel rather stupid at the moment.

Well due to network constraints, I can only bring one machine over, and it is not running at full speed, a XP2600, only running @1200!:frown:

I've got 1 600 mhz comp which probably runs about 10 hrs a day. It isn't much, but, I guess any little bit will help.

bfour: Just outta curiousity: Why would a 2600+ be running at 1200?

Yelo333: If it's crunching, it's helping!
