I don't see why anybody is surprised. MLB rescheduled this game at the last minute to avert a near-certain rain out.

Twins got stomped by Orioles the other day.

Anyway, I once heard the theory there should be many less baseball games and they should be hyped up more, kinda like football.
And none of this double header bullshit. If they have any energy left at the end of the first game then they failed miserably.

These opinions make no sense.

Jeeze, I thought Toronto was bad. The Jays get a steady couple thousand each game, and they were practically giving tickets away at that point.

I don't think baseball is as popular as it once was. At least outside where the major dynasties are.

Outside of the Cubs, who have accounted for most of the 'drop' in attendance,' baseball attendance has actually been pretty good. What PJ fails to emphasize is that this game was being played by the worst-attended team in MLB AND the game was reschuled at the last minute to avoid a near-certain rain out due to the hurricane.

What you're saying is the equivalent of saying that the NFL isn't that popular anymore after going to a game that was rescheduled from Sunday night to Tuesday at 3 pm.

Well, they are 26 games out of first. Besides the weather, build a winner and they will come.

We don't have a pot to piss in here in Detroit, but we know how to jump on a bandwagon. Tigers are selling out against division rivals. Just a whisper of the potential for success has given Lions fans Lions fever.

Baseball sucks as a spectator sport, hell, it sucks as a sport, it's more like a past time.

Edit: Any sport a fatty/chunky can play isn't a sport.

Don't the Marlins have the most hilarious attendance records of any professional sports franchise?

meh, Marlins fans--if they exist--already know the true song and dance:

Build a winner, then watch the fire sale! Slum in mediocrity for another decade or so, then repeat.

They have had some awesome teams--and they have been far, far more successful than the Cubs, yet people still love their cubbies.

Dude! It is still 350 freakin people!!!

I get the whole schedule change and the hurricane on the way thing, but still. 350 people to a major league game is pathetic.

The Yankees could get 350 people to show up for batting practice.

The Marlins are pathetic. They should have been moved years ago. Or contracted.

They have the worst attendance in MLB, so it really shouldn't be surprising that in a year where they aren't in the running for anything they would draw a few hundred fans at best to their stadium on a rescheduled game.

That being said, the Marlins don't reflect baseball overall. In nearly any other city those tickets would have been snapped up on primary or secondary markets.

Take a look at population numbers for the state of Florida. IMO, thats a whole lot crazier. Why anyone would want to live there at all, much less go outside in the summertime is something I will never understand

Crazy that people would want to live in the continental state with the highest percentage of oceanfront borders?

"UPDATE: The Marlins must see dead people. They announced the doubleheader's official attendance as 22,505 fans."

LOL!

What's worse: the Marlins only draw 350 people or MLB's stupid attendance rules allow them to claim 22,000?

How is all of this not Obama's fault?

Take a trip to Florida in October and you will change your tune.

The fall in Florida is better than any season in any state I have ever lived and I've lived in 5.
Sunny and mid 70s every freaking day! Same with late winter/early spring.

I had a convertible and could drive with the top down everyday for the entire 7 years I lived there. Unless there is a hurricane around you are going to get some sun everyday, almost.

And when it does rain it comes in spurts. Nice sunny day and then an afternoon rain storm for an hour or two and then the sun comes back out and you have a nice night.

The only bad thing is the summer heat and humidity, otherwise the Florida weather is amazing.

So Outer Banks in the summer and down to FL in the winter? Sounds like a good plan to me. They just need to bring a baseball team to NC already.

That works.

I'd say summer on the Maine coast, fall/spring in FL and Winter in Hawaii.

You'd spend your entire year in 70-80 degree weather. What more could you want?

Marlins vs. Reds doubleheader in Florida in August. That sounds more like part of sentence than entertainment.

PSA-summer in Maine (even on the coast) includes that week from hell, deer fly season. Thick clouds of the nasty biters.
