Does anyone know if this has the nforce chip that outputs 5.1 DD audio for any source?

From what i understand this is only on nforce motherboards with the MCP-D/MCP-T southbridge.

thanks

This isn't too bad... I was really hating myself for missing out on the Dell 400SC deal the other day...hmm....

I think it's closest to the A7N8X-VM, but it's made only for HP/Compaq and the BIOS advanced functions are locked out.

I found a few links saying people were able to flash it to the normal Asus board, but that fan control and firewire was disabled. Someone else who tried it said their machine wouldn't post after they tried to flash it.

Anyone happen to know how to get into the advanced BIOS settings on Compaqs?

Hmmm... how does this rate against the Dell 400SC for the same price? Obviously, they are meant for different things (and this one has more out of pocket expense), but this one does come with XP...

Thoughts?

The 400sc is more a barebones type system since it has no sound, OS, etc...

This one is ready to go right out of the box with warrenty supporting everything.

This is pretty tempting. Haven't owned a Compaq in years-some questions (1) are these as quiett as a Dell 4600 (dead silent) or 8300 (very slight whisper)? How is the build quality? Does Compaq use proprietary parts, like power supplies?

Any reviews of this computer anywhere?

It is a standard ATX motherboard, so everything is just like a custom built computer with a Asus nForce2 IGP board

The 400SC has integrated sound; however, like the 8x AGP slot, the integrated sound is officially unsupported. Both features function, regardless of lack of support. More information here, and here. The recent $249/$349 PowerEdge 400SC offer included a one year warranty as well.

Most on these forums build/have built machines of their own, but at the price-point offered by Dell, the 400SC is difficult to compete with as the component and build quality is quite high.

Wow, this is great. My boss has been looking for a good deal on a new PC, and I think this fits the bill quite well.

This model uses a MicroATX board according to the HP support site specs and motherboard pic. I'm not sure about the size of the case though, I can't tell if it would fit a standard ATX board or not.

This plus a geforce 6800 plus a good power supply sounds like an unbeatable Value under $700.00.
Thanks for the heads up on this one!

I don;t know, spending more on the video card then the rest of the system might have to take the word Value out of it

Not sold out. The actual Radio Shack stores all have them, so just use the tool to enter your zip code and it will show you the stock at every store in a radius around your zip code. Three stores have them in stock here in Southern New Jersey/Philadelphia.

Price is still $350, there are two rebates ($200 & $50). Links on are on the Radio Shack page.

I can't believe I am seriously considering buying a computer from Radio Shack, but this seems like a very good deal. Add another stick of memory and a decent videocard (probably) and you will be all set.
