What most really wait for are the real pictures of how it is going to look like. So far, nothing.

I am sure they will try to make profit on it. Their advantage is that because they are selling directly (no middleman) they have pretty decent margins - IIRC they have 28% margin on Model S.

This car, plus ultra quick charging will be a total game changer IMO. I'm extremely excited to see an EV for the masses. If the price is truly $30k in 2017 and can get the range predicted, I think it could become pretty popular.

A 35k alternative to high end Accords/Camry's etc and lower end BMW 3's/benz CLA etc would certainly be a game changer IF the range is reasonable and IF there are actually places to charge the thing.

Even so... all the people buying Leafs etc. (which around here are everywhere) will dump them in a heartbeat for 2x+ range and the benefits of an eV

I'll be bring a charger to my parents house. They are at the extreme of the range, ~95 miles from my house, and I go there often enough.

Otherwise, this car would be perfect for me and my wife 99% of the rest of the time.

To bad it arrives after my cmax energi lease is up. I can rent for the 2-3 road trips a year.

"Model E" was actually their first choice. But then Ford threatened a lawsuit for the name, and Tesla has changed it to "Model 3".

There aren't gonna be enough electric charging stations for this.. They have about 6 charging stations at my apartment and they're all already in use full time.

Probably after.

Would be cool if before though.

I don't think battery tech has advanced enough to effectively drop the price close to half (assuming same as the 40kwhr Tesla S never sold)

But if before...after federal tax credit, and some states, it could be like in the 20-25k range. And accounting for the gas you don't burn and maintenance you don't have to bother with, knock another 5-10k off of 10 year ownership costs.

I was listening to the radio this morning and there was a talk about the patent thing, and the guy mentioned how rare electric cars were still. Within the time a stoplight turned green I saw 3, and within another 10 minutes I saw 3 more. They are everywhere here (bay area). Clearly not the norm!

Supercharger isn't free afaik - Tesla charges a one-time option fee on the car when you buy it.

I think to pay for the infrastructure and electricity, public charging stations could be put anywhere and have a pay meter. Luckily it's a lot cheaper for the electricity than gasoline either way.

Private lots like grocery stores can decide if they want to provide for free or not. Currently they're usually free.

noob here, if you're charging your vehicle unattended, whats stopping the next guy from driving up and removing the plug from your car and plugging it into his, especially if you're at one of the paying charge stations?

I have no idea if any security is implemented, but if they have thought of this at all, it is a completely trivial issue to prevent. Improper certificate presented, no electrons flow (no idea if they do it this way, but it is trivial). It isn't just a dumb outlet.
