Just checked the new deals at outpost for this week.

They have a Cendyne (likely a lite-on rebadge) 12x8x32 CDRW for $50, with a 15 rebate (Total = $35). I burn the occasional CD but really only use my RW for backups. 12x is more than fast enough for me, and $35 is what 40x CD-ROMs cost at BB.

They're also selling the ATI Radeon LE, a dual-display, 32meg DDR, TV-out AGP video card for $50. Circuit city is selling this card for $99 with a $20 MIR, so you may be able to PM this and get it for $30. Even at $50, this is a good price for the retail version of this card.

Can anyone tell me how the Radeon LE compares to the GeForce2 GTS-V by Visiontek on sale at NewEgg? I need to buy a new video card for the computer I just built my brother. Thanx.

Edit: I just looked at the site, and I only see the Radeon VE for $50, not the LE. Is there a difference?

Lizardman -

I should have been more specific about the Circuit City PM. Circuit city only matches B&M stores, but I'm assuming the $50 price is valid at all Fry's locations this week. I haven't checked today's paper to confirm this, but I'm 95% sure this deal applies to all Fry's stores.

Sorry for all the folks without access to a local Fry's store, but I think $50 for a retail card is still a pretty good deal.

The Radeon VE is a Radeon LE but:
- The Radeon VE supports dual monitor output (1 VGA, 1 DVI or 2 VGA with an included adapter) and TV-out
- One of the rendering pipelines is disabled (or something like that) so 3-d performance is worse than the LE.

Anandtech did a review of the VE that explained what components in the VE were disabled.

I like the thought of dual displays (with these $104 19" monitor deals floating around) more than killer FPS. The LE is a much better gamers card, though, if that's what you're looking for.

Nice price at $50 for this card. There is another thread about the Radeon LE for $39, but it requires some minor tweaking to make it comparable to the VE (performance wise) and doesn't offer dual-display or tv-out. Plus the $39 one is the OEM version and possibly refurbed, as opposed to retail boxed.

Thanx BravesFan,

While I personally would go for the Dual Display and TV Out I think my brother's more of a gamer, so I guess the LE is better and only $39 Here. Now I guess the question is how this compares to the Visiontek Xtasy 5632 ($49 @ NewEgg).

VE's a good little kicker of a card. If all you play is CS, quake3, yadda yadda, it will do you just fine.

Regarding the radeon ve being discussed here, how much does the amount and type of memory matter? I just ordered one of these from outpost, this ATI Radeon VE Dual w/tv out 32mb AGP, but I see that the 64mb version is available from noname companies on pricewatch for around $60-65 shipped, and the 64mb DDR version is listed on pricewatch for like $80 shipped. I don't know that much about video cards, so I'm not sure how much these memory specs will really matter. Does the memory affect the dvd playback and tv outputting capabilities at all, or it only important for 3D applications like games?

I don't have a copy of the LA Times near me. Does anyone know if Fry's has an ad showing the Radeon VE to be $50?

I tried to buy this at Fry's B&M and they didn't have it.(PHX)
It is on Outpost for 49.99, I printed it out and brought it to Circuit City.
They looked at me kinda' funny and went in back to "talk it over."
They came back after calling Fry's and said the price was $79.99 at Fry's and the online store has "nothing to do with Fry's in Phoenix."
I was a little surprised at that, seeing how the ads advertise Outpost, and the site reads Fry's on top?
Well to make a long story short. The best price on the Raedon VE in PHX is 49.99, only online.
Other stores may very, they would do it at $79.99 and give me the rebate, but that only 59.99!
