Where's that picture of the woman surrounded by Christmas gifts who had to "sacrifice" her designer jeans so that she could buy toys for her children?

WON'T SOMEBODY PLEASE THINK OF THE CHILDREN???

Retards.

Don't listen to the others, you're totally right. It's a retarded style which makes people look stupid. Mind you, that describes a lot of fashions...but this one is particularly egregious.

What I don't understand is how construction projects suddenly get halted. Don't you make sure you have enough money BEFORE you start such a project? Like, even cival construction projects totally halted, how does that happen? Don't they fund these things before they actually start? The construction workers won't suddenly decide to charge double half way through a contract, or can they do that?

Holy horrible sentence!

Storm clouds hover near unfinished home lots during a break between storms after the dwindling new home sales market brought construction to a halt at a new home development December 16, 2008 in Rancho Cucamonga, California.

I assume that they have enough money to finish, but given that they don't forsee selling the homes, once completed, they'd rather maintain their cash reserves by halting the project before they've spent all of their money.

You can get extended stay service at 150 per week, which is half that rate.

With large construction projects, the work is often rolled out in separate phases, with the contractor getting paid after each stage is completed. If some of your funding backs out before the final phase, the contractor has to stop work or risk not getting paid.

Did anyone else get a sense of satisfaction in the empty development lots? Nothing makes me hate modern society more then a soulless development (especially when they clearcut, when will they learn that trees look nice?).

Most of the other pictures were kinda sad though. But most people shown here will probably make it through in one piece, even if it takes a while.
yes. srsly developers, 450k to live in BFE? GTFO
I am seriously hoping to aquire a nice house for a low price soon. Ideally before the economy turns around and prices skyrocket again.
Nothing has made me so mad over the past 10 years as the ridiculous price of houses. Especially considering most of them were built by people getting paid 2 bucks an hour.

All of those photos could have been from 2004 with different captions like "Business is Booming!"

Quickly before my ISP goes broke, how does one shower to get an edge in finding work when living in a tent village such as the one pictured?

Have a look at these photos of the Great Depression to get some perspective. Things could be a lot worse.

No one is living in homes made entirely by hand out of scrap. No one is selling their tent (their only shelter for them and their kids) to pay for frozen peas. No one is relying on their kids to kill birds so they can eat.

Toward Los Angeles, California. 1937. Photographer: Dorothea Lange. Perhaps 2.5 million people abandoned their homes in the South and the Great Plains during the Great Depression and went on the road.

I am actually quite sure they can self sustain if they started a service based economy. If the US can make up money, why can't they use monopoly money amongst themselves?

Interesting quote under one of the photos of a family barely surviving.

"We don't want to go where we'll be a nuisance to anybody."

Now that is a person I would want to help out if I could. People who are poor now don't even want to stand on their own two feet. They just expect people to give them things. It's the welfare mentality and it sucks. People today are spoiled.

Nice pics.

My fave are the unfinished housing developments because they are so pristine, to me it looks like the end of the world for those, like there isn't even the despair seen in the other pics, they're just empty and void.
