...would likely make the 960 the go-to 1080p card. Then the only market AMD would have is the low end gaming market with the R9 270/270x.
R9 270 Low end?
I was planing to buy a R7 260/265 and I thought I was going mid end gaming...

Well good for you if that's the case, cause here in my country, we do not have those kind of deals plus electricity costs way too much for anybody here who owns an R9 series card.I'd say the 290 is the best bang for your buck. I got one of these DD edition cards for $180. Now I see the reviews and I'm shocked ; Had no idea it was that good.

That said, if the OP can just wait a while -- you might as well wait and see what's out next year.
good buy there. for some its not the matter of waiting but rather what makes them happy about the purchased itemI ordered Asus R9 290 DCII OC for $240 after MIR. Oh well, so much for the willingness to wait.
I was hoping a $249 960Ti with 4GB VRAM and near 290 performance. Wishful thinking maybe.

it makes no sense whatsoever to spend more than the $240 for the 290 linked by RussianSensation to go to a 970. For what? To gain 5% fps for an extra $60? Why wait for a card that performs like a 290 maybe, one day, perhaps, in the future, when you can just buy a 290 right now for $240... I remember only just a year ago now GTX 760s were going for $250 and the 290 is a hell of a lot more card for that same price

IMO, if 960 is $249 and only has 2GB of VRAM, it's a total failure. I think NV will make it closer to 970M with 3GB of VRAM.
