That Linkworld 400w ATX PS that a lot of poeple bought a about 3 or 4 months ago for $22 + shipping is now selling for $17. Would anyone who bought the Linkworld 400w unit like to comment on how it performed?

its actually a pretty decent PSU! But that's all it is: the fan is weak but semi-quiet, only 4-connectors, no switch in the back!

To sum it up in one word. ... YES 200W on those combined rails does mean its a good power supply.

It seems like there is a never ending discussion on the anandtech forums about the best/minimum PSU to use for a system. I always thought it weird that people thought they needed 550W PSU for a regular type system when my system (AMD XP 1800, 3 WD HDD's, DVD, CD-ROM and lots of other goodies) was running fine with a cheap 250W PSU. At that point I knew nothing about PSU's... since then I have tried to educate myself on the subject of what all those little numbers on the PSU actually mean. I hope we can all share some knowledge here.

Here is a great resource I found on the AMD web site. It tells you all of the actual specs. that AMD wants in a PSU. I may be nub and everyone already knows all of this stuff, but we all gotta learn sometime

AMD Builders Spec. Guild for Desktops

Or... you can find the web page here: AMD Athlon Power Supply Page

It is a very nice read and I suggest all who are unsure about the actual power needs of their system.

I invite all people to post their knowledge of PSU's and exactly how all of the actual numbers come together in their understanding. Lets finally get to the bottom of how much power we all really need

So is it true that a K7S5A w/ SDRAM actually draws more current vs. the same MB w/ DDR?

(I too used to be in the "any ol' PS is fine" club!)

>Would you mind keep us updated if the place looks reputable and if you think its safe to order

My experience was just about all good, but with one aspect I don't get. Therefore I have different take on this.

The quality of some of their amazing bargains is good to very good. Somebody there can tell a good product from a bad one and passes their great selective ability on to customers at the lowest possible price.

But one item sent was wrong in my order, not that big of thing to me, only they haven't responded in 13 days and five emails to their guy that is supposed to handle it. I have been told many things are the cause of this, that there are several special circumstances which are causing a delay at just this time.

Some have told me that I am the only person that ever could not resolve a problem with SVC, that just days ago somebody got a response to a problem via email in few days, which would be entirely within the 13 days I've waited, that if I phoned they would take care of me immediately. One generous person at first seemed to be trying to help but ended up claiming I thought there was a conspiracy against me or SVC customers in general when I kept saying why I thought resellers do what they do. I assure you I think SVC is great place, and as far as I can see SVC customers get a great deal.

The fact remains that I am not getting a response. It isn't huge thing, but I don't think it is just fine for them to do this either. I have also come in contact with some people who say they never could get SVC to settle their problem, or could never get SVC to respond by phone or email. Meanwhile others claim they have resolved lots of difficuties satisfactoraly.

I checked out that resellers rating. There are about 25 responses, just about all enviable. The part about product replacement service had exactlly one response. His efforts to settle with SVC went on endlessly, and SVC never reimbursed him for shipping on their mistake, but he gave them a 5. I think I understand.

Got mine today, Low-end for a 350 watt, but at least it was cheap.

Compared to my Enermax 350....

RaidMax 350 - 3.3v 16A, 5v 25A, 12v 14A Total 346 watts
Enermax 350 - 3.3v 32A, 5v 32A, 12v 17A Total 460 watts but max usable at one time is 350 watts

How can they both be 350 Watts ?

It's simple, You'll never get 350 watts out of the Raidmax unless you use exactly what each voltage is rated at. This is a sign of a low-quality power supply, and you'll probably never be able to use more than 250-300 watts. That's ok, as long as you are not trying to run a 2.8 Ghz P4 or an AMD 2100+ in a loaded system.

If you add up all the Amps/voltages on the Enermax, you get much higher than the 350 watts it is rated at. This is a sign of a good power supply, you can draw more power where you need it. This power suppply can supply you with 350 Watts where you need it.

The $17.00 Linkworld 400W PS looks like it matches up adequately to that Enermax 350

Enermax 350 - 3.3v 32A, 5v 32A, 12v 17A Total 460 watts but max usable at one time is 350 watts

Linkworld 400W 3.3v 28A, 5v 30A, 12v 15A Total 400 watts

The $17 Linkworld 400w comes in at 3.3v 28A, 5v 30A, 12v 15A, Total 422 watts.
Looks like it is the best low cost way to go?

EDIT: looks like MysticMan1 beat me to it

Edit some more.
Just ordered 2 of the Linkworld 400's for $34.
Shipping for 2 came to $8.85, so 2 delivered total $42.85, or $21.43 each.

(received. Not happy. Post about is below)

About damn time. Sorry you're gettin' screwed KF, but I'm sure glad it isn't just me anymore. I had to wait 5 days just to find out that they weren't shipping my $50 order because a $6 heatsink wasn't in stock; they refuse to answer e-mail; and they sure didn't want to speak with me on the phone. My experience is on Reseller Ratings under the handle SheerFrustration.

Looks to me like they get their business through word-of-mouth advertising because they have cheap products delivered in a timely manner 98% of the time; but if you have a problem with your order, hahahaha.

got mine today, it is lightweight compared to the delta power supply from the earlier directron deal. At least it has a p4 connector and an on/off switch.

Where did you get the Linkworld 400W PS? I don't see it on the SVC site. Where is it?
