360 HD-DVD drive internal use in PC...

Im having a hell of a time find information on this.

Other than THIS, I cant find any information. Most people seem to use it as an external drive, but I recently found a good price on just the drive, no case.

Mostly im looking for a guide, but ANY information would be helpful. Mostly, how to connect the ah heck.

Cabages You take a screw driver and open up the HD-DVD drive... Then you remove the drive from the case and install it in an empty 3.5" slot. Go to your local computer store and buy a laptop IDE cable to desktop IDE cable. Go in the bios and make sure the drive has been dectected. load up the os and install the driver which are avaliable from many website. Then make sure your GPU and Monitor support HD-DVD. Then download one of the many software that can decode HD-DVD protected movies. After doing all of this your good to go : )


Now i don't know why would you want to make your drive internal... i see alot of befints of being external.

Ya, after seeing how complicated it is to make it internal, I decided not to. I was only thinking about it because I found just the oem drive for a good price.

Im not sure what you mean by this. I have Slysofts AnyDVD with HD-DVD and Blu-ray support, so I dont need to worry about the HDCP thing (which BTW, I have no HDCP components). But you mentioned the decrypter in the next line.

So is there something else I need to worry about?

BTW, I have a ripped HD-DVD movie that I can play at full speed. I should be able to play them off the drive no prob. right? And is 1440x900 going to be a problem?

Good luck. I like mine a lot.

People dont realize the kind of IQ you get going from DVD--->Upconvert---->HD-DVD.

1440x900 shouldnt be a problem at all. Whatever program you use should handle all the scaling.

You know, I think im gonna give myself a little graduation present, find the best price I can find right now, and get it.

I can watch it on my PC, and then on my projector through my 360. Im gonna be lovin this!

Course it would help if I could get rid of my old xbox.
